Need router with easy multiple DHCP reservations

I've a need to set-up 30+ devices on static DHCP reservations. Currently using tftpd running on a PC, but would like to unload this task to a consumer-grade router. Tried it with my old WRT54G-v4 (DD-WRT v2.4) and found the process of adding DHCP reservations clunky (either through web GUI...

Expanding Synology NAS via USB/eSATA HDD encl.

I've been quite happy with my DS411j, and I was thinking to sell my old 4-bay eSATA enclosure but now I'm feeling greedy. I want to extend the DS411j with another 4 HDD hosted inside that USB enclosure. What have been your experience wi Synology NAS & external USB/eSATA HDD enclosures? Does...

Need help getting ds411j to show up in win7

Stevech, lifehacker has some links to articles to make win7 behaves more like xp. Here are some examples: http://lifehacker.com/5354879/disable-the-new-libraries-feature-on-windows-7 http://lifehacker.com/5627778/disable-windows-7s-homegroup-feature-to-save-system-resources

Thanks Stevech. I got it working now. I always disable homegroup, libraries and other win7 specific features - and in this case, I just proved that I didn't know what I was doing :D

Need help getting ds411j to show up in win7

My 1st real NAS, yay.. Installed the drives, waited almost 2 days for the volume creation, created folder, set up user priv., went to my win7 machines and what?! Couldn't get to it. Tried \\syno-name, tried \\192.xxx, no go. I could browse the files via browser, ping the synobox, search via...

    Netgear HomePlug 500Mbps

I've the kit without filtered socket. I'm getting constant 100Mbps on iperf TCP test between 1st & 2nd floor. As a comparison, HPAV (200Mbps) adapters (not Netgear) ran 70Mbps constant.

First NAS? For home media use.

I'm also in the market and the DS411J is on top of my list for price and features (or lack of features that I won't need) Planning to pull the plug when the Samsung 2TB HDD goes on sale.

    Trendnet TPL-401E2K

Cell/battery chargers are wonderful noise sources Microwave ovens are definitely monsters, when it comes to noise going back to the wall as well.

Another "what to buy thread" - but this one got an ugly/awesome Picture in it!

PS3 can act as a mediaplayer, definitely can substitute that WDTV Live. Just need to run some DLNA servers on that fat comp, like Tversity or PS3 Media Server

Want to replace WRT54G v4 and 520gu with faster counterparts

a quick update on my quest to upgrade my aging 802.11g network; I bought a BrightView Twin Adapter Kit, only $55 shipped from amazon, directly from BrightView. Cheap enough (brand/dollar wise) to experiment, so I gave it a shot. Unless I found a major problem with them, I think I'm going to...

Want to replace WRT54G v4 and 520gu with faster counterparts

with my luck (and old home), I don't really want to try out the powerline AV kit. Maybe with a local retailer that has easy return policy. How about this: WGA600N to replace the 520gu (client bridge) for the living room, connected to a small switch (to 4 devices) and WRT400N to replace...
