    Asus Router/Network Security Question...

A family member just moved into an apartment in an older row home. I purchased a modem and Asus router for him, and he connected it up and it didn't work. When I went over to troubleshoot, the landlord had an Ethernet cable running into his apartment, and my son had that connected to the...

    VPN Nube - Speed Question

Thanks Captain. I spoke with NordVPN today, and they shy away from talking about performance - even sharing what their customer's experiences have been. SurfShark offers WireGuard, but for me and my connection, IKEv2 is faster.

    VPN Nube - Speed Question

I've shopped around for VPN's and selected SurfShark on performance, privacy and price. I contacted their tech support when I was shopping to find out what kind of performance hit I'll see with a VPN. I was told by SurfShark to expect a 30% decrease in download speed, worst case. I have a 600mbs...

    Home Network - Starting Over...

Everyone... I don't know how this happened, but as I was answering dosborne's post, I randomly looked in File Explorer and DAMN! I could see laptop B from laptop A. I could also see A from B. I set up the shared printer connected to laptop A and B prints to it perfectly. The only things I...

I tried pinging using IP's and I couldn't. I am trying to connect over WiFi. Any other ideas?

    Home Network - Starting Over...

Thanks everyone for your input. I've been busy fixing other issues since I started this post. Let me provide a little more info... I need to connect two laptops on my home network via WiFi, one of which has a printer attached via USB that I need to share. I followed the tutorial on TenForums...

    Home Network - Starting Over...

OE, It's not some type of official "hub", it's just a desktop in the basement that all of the laptops in the house connect to in order to print. So, it's the "hub" of my network. That's all. :)

    Home Network - Starting Over...

I've never gotten my Win10-based home network to operate 100%. Sometimes it works for some computers, other times it just doesn't. I am starting over and want to make sure I get a clean start and possibly get this right! What I have now is an old desktop as my home Hub - it's got the printer...

    Asus AC86 Dropping 5GHz

Thanks telUK. I'll try your settings if/when my router craps out again.

    Asus AC86 Dropping 5GHz

I set the 5GHz radio to Channel 157 (up from 149) and bandwidth to 20/40/80 (was 80). Speeds are back to what I had with the previous settings - so that's a good thing. Overall, as I think about it, it's probably unlikely that the 5GHz radio became unavailable for all devices in my home...

    Asus AC86 Dropping 5GHz

Just set my 86U to Channel 40, using 20/40/80 bandwidth. Trend Micro and Smart Connect were already off. What used to be a 550mbps down connection on my laptop is now 32ombps down tops. I guess that's the price of moving to a lower channel. But maybe it will be more reliable? I made this...

    Asus AC86 Dropping 5GHz

I might try turning off the Trend Micro AI protection and possibly dropping to a lower channel.
