Gotta add this. I moved my router to a different room (and updated to latest version) and I have had a LOT better wireless experience. Looks like the router was getting interference from all the tech equipment in my office.

Take a look at your router channels. I was seeing this and it looked like the router was changing primary channel on 5G from like 40 to 36, etc (due to interference or too many networks in the vicinity) and at that point I was getting the exclamation mark and needed to reconnect the device to...

I see the same behavior on mine. What I end up doing is clicking on the mac address and manually naming each device. The router then saves the device name and will only show that.

The router was bought from Fry's Electronics which is a major electronics store here, so no grey source. I think Asus just blocked all those channels on the US model. Anyone else wanna chime in to confirm?

Channels 100-140 are called DFS channels. In the US, those channels are usually restricted for radar signals and stuff, and most routers don't even display those channels. So for US, we can only use 36-48 and 149-165 which increases the likelihood of interference if you are in an area with many...

I think I know what causes the AiMesh to bork out. Seems like the primary channel changes randomly which then causes devices to lock up on the network and even the secondary mesh router to disconnect. Is there a way in Smart Connect to disable the auto channel assignment?

Ai Protect is disabled. Most security things are off as I put an F5 appliance in the DMZ for all traffic. I don't use any of the iOS or Android apps. I set up the mesh using the config page on both routers. The mesh is just hella unreliable. Also very frustrated as the DFS channels are blocked...

I understand. I would want to use DFS in the low 100s. I know some regions have those channels enabled and with the same level of power - ex: Russia.

I am merely looking to figure out how to change router region - I know different regions have different channels that are available to them. There are many posts/threads on how to do that in this forum so not sure how the policy gets enforced if that is truly the case.

1-11 for 2.4, 36-48 and 149-165 for 5G. I have a couple neighbors that run on 106. I have about 10 5G networks around me with overlapping channels and they are causing interference, especially in the lower 5G.

@RMerlin - I know you are the expert in AsusWRT. Is there any way you can help?

Looking to unlock the GT-AC5300 to be able to select different channels. I have a lot of 5GHz and 2.4GHz networks around me and the router gets some massive interference on some channels. Need to be able to go to like 13 on the 2.4 and the low 100s in the 5 range. Has anyone done it?

@drabisan - i have horrible experience with that build. Need to reconnect the wifi every 2 days or so, and it starts slowing down, and things stop connecting, etc. I have to physically reboot the device. Also, with AiMesh, after 2 days, the mesh drops and I have to restart the router.
