Problem solved, thank you degrub!
I split the 8TB drive into two 4TB partitions. Now, I can assign a letter to each of the partitions and each of them shows 3.6+ TBs. Looks like the router may have problems with very large drives, so the solution is to partition it into smaller chunks.

a) If I test out the block size approach first, what block size would you recommend? I just left it at the default when I did the formatting.

I got a brand new WRT3200ACM router. It works great, but when I connect a Seagate 8TB drive to it, the computers only recognize it as a 4TB drive.
