I had an old antenna lying around. But I needed the connector (wire mfh3 to female). I ordered this from Amazon. Wire and antenna (yes the antenna doesn’t match , I am sure it’s not optimal, but better than a broken wire sitting under a passive heat spreader plate).

I added my old external antenna successfully. Router functions much better now. The fact that 25% of the radios in use had no antenna caused severe issues when the router was main. Currently still a node and functions much better with the replacement antenna.
You can also set the preference per node, in the settings aimesh >>topology >> select node from tree >> Managment >>backhaul connection priority >> select wan first. Not sure what would happen if you main is aimesh 2.0 and the node only aimesh 1.0.
In my rush to future proof I also picked up a AXE-11000 (got an ok price , awaiting DIY antenna repair) without axe client devices or another ASUS axe as a node the 6ghz band really isn’t being used. My suggestion (which I have yet to execute myself) is to hardwire for Ethernet backhaul. I am...
I know this is old , I have an ac5300 with a bunch of aimesh nodes. The 2nd 5ghz radio is dedicated to backhaul so this messes with the logic of smart connect I have seen posted here 2.4 / 5g1 / 5g2. Also I have a axe-11000 and it just doesn’t make sense to mix it with older devices , either as...
Added nodes. Axe-11000 currently out of service waiting replacement antenna connector wire. The specification sheet I had was incorrect. The 6ghz connectors are mfh4, the dual 5ghz/2.4ghz seem to be mfh3. At least on my board revision r 2-31
Without the 4th 5ghz/2.4 antenna this router fails hard as wireless master and node.
I downgraded to ASUS ac5300 on latest Merlin and waiting on a new cable to repair the axe-11000 before placing it back in to service as a node.
I know it is overkill as a node but until I have 6ghz hardware...
I got it open.
Unfortunately the specification sheet I had listed the 2.4/5ghz antenna mounts as mfh4 and the 6g mounts as mfh4l. I ordered a mfh4 connector cable but it didn’t fit going to try the mfh3 type (on order). Also it doesn’t look like the board has MFH4l just regular MFH4 .
Note the...
Dear all,
Asking for teardown advice.
Advice on next steps to open router case. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
One of my combined 2.4/5ghz antenna on my ASUS AXE-11000 is broken. Attempting self repair. Issue is with disassembly. I have various plastic spatulas/ “spuggers” but...
My network is acting up , dropping nodes that can never be reconnected. I move the mini xd4 closer to the main router and reset and re-added them. Going to hardwire whenever my monoprice order (currently in new warehouse limbo) comes in. Since I work from home picked up an ac5300 as a backup plan.
I deployed my Zen ax minis today. I didn’t realize that they had beta firmware (previous newest release) when I deployed them with one new unit in wired backhaul mode. When I disconnected it the mesh network performance tanked. Only later did I realize the firmware was beta. Now on current...
Your 4 ax nodes, totally surpass my older WiFi 5 ac units. Even with my Zen ax upgrade coming it will be only a dual band unit not the additional 3 band units you have shown.
