I performed a dirty upgrade from 388.8_4 to 3006.102.4 earlier today on my RT-AX86U Pro and except for the manual configuration of the guest network, no problems have been experienced. Thanks Merlin!

Dirty update yesterday from 388.8_4 directly to 388.9 on RT-AX86U. All good so far.

In order to bypass the VPN for the Eyeglassworld.com site, I converted the URL to IP using www.nslookup.io/website-to-ip-lookup and added the following rule to VPN Director I hope this helps.
