All cabling is CAT 7 involved in the speed test and some unhooked gear has CAT 6. I thank you for the help and if you are stumped as well I am guessing it is just the unit or perhaps indeed the old equipment performs better than the new. At this point I may return the Asus as it just arrived...- Enoviles

I consider latest stock the latest manufacturer provided firmware as I am familiar with several routers having other firmware available. That is correct. Firmware version 3.0.0.4.380_3341 My ISP is rated 50/5 I get 61.1/6.1 supposedly TWC aka Spectrum will be 300/30 or so by 2017. I of course will believe when I see it. As example of wired versus wireless that you mention. I was getting 61.43/6.28 wired with 38 ping on a Speedtest sever...- Enoviles

I have just picked up an Asus 5300 and have an old Apple Airport Extreme Fifth gen. The Airport has treated me well and I always got as good of wireless performance from it in Speedtest as I did wired. No need to reboot and was rock solid.
