    Norton Core Router Reviewed

I picked one of these up to test almost immediately after they were released, mainly because I was curious what the final product would look like. I worked for Symantec for a while and had friends in the beta program who gave it less-than-glowing reviews during beta. Unfortunately, my...

CUJO Smart Internet Firewall - Second Look

Agreed, but I wasn't seeing any real positive to keeping it on my network, for a few reasons: a) I'm not seeing a lot of malicious traffic, and b) what I do see is fairly innocuous or a false positive. Just not worth the expense in my specific setup.

CUJO Smart Internet Firewall - Second Look

My assumption was for telemetry purposes (all of the devices were talking to the same Apple-registered IP address); they each tried to hit the address within an hour of each other (MacBook, iPad, and iPhone), and it was one time in the week.

CUJO Smart Internet Firewall - Second Look

Gave the Cujo a try for a week, and am returning it to the box store I bought it from (thankfully, they have a kick butt return policy). I was quasi-skeptical about its capabilities to begin with, and while it does seem to offer SOME degree of protection, there's just no replacement for an...

Circle Connection’s Launch Builds Up Smart Family Concept Even More

Gang, not everyone is technologically savvy, so using something like this theoretically helps them monitor and enable/disable screen time for their kids. I tried Circle, but it seemed REALLY wonky in the early offing, so I sold mine to someone who'd be able to make better use of it. Some of...

Orbi question re: DHCP server settings (also asked on /Orbi)

Thanks guys. If I use Internet setup, that will preclude me from using OpenDNS, which I'd still like to use. Are there plans to add more options into DHCP setup? I was honestly surprised at how sparse the options were...

Orbi question re: DHCP server settings (also asked on /Orbi)

Hey gang, I bought the Orbi a little while back, and have really liked it so far. Yesterday, I decided to set up a Pi-Hole (VERY cool stuff, by the way), but when I tried to configure a custom DNS server in the LAN settings, I couldn't find it. That kind of surprised me. So, am I missing...

Norton Announces Its Own Wireless Router With Security Emphasis

Yeah, no promises (obviously). I'm a small cog in the wheel, but it sounded like they were definitely interested in reaching out. Hopefully that happens sooner rather than later. With regards to the protection, I asked about this, and it's talking about software. I don't know the details for...

Norton Announces Its Own Wireless Router With Security Emphasis

FYI, I asked them to get ahold of you on this, so you can do a review on it (I work for Symantec, but in another part of the business). I'm also trying to get one for myself so I can text it out in my house. SFX, Norton is Symantec's consumer brand ;-)

    R7000 firmware questions

What does the new firmware add/fix? I just put my R7000 back in production after testing out another manufacturer's router (an AC-3100) and saw no tangible boost to performance on my network (thank you Best Buy for having a 45-day return policy!). Side question - will the AC1900 range extender...

Seeing a lot of lag - time for an upgrade or a wireless extender?

No torrenting. I'm honestly starting to wonder if there's something else going on, as others have mentioned. Not malware, but the latency I'm seeing actually being on the other end. I think I was trying to justify buying a shiny new toy, but you folks have successfully talked me out of...

Seeing a lot of lag - time for an upgrade or a wireless extender?

YOWZA!! Lots of good information here. Thanks everyone. I have Comcast and average around 125MB. I guess "lag" was probably the wrong word; typically, I don't have many issues with latency when I'm gaming. What I HAVE noticed recently is that when my kids are online (i.e. my son is playing...

Seeing a lot of lag - time for an upgrade or a wireless extender?

Hey gang, long time listener, first time caller. I currently have a Netgear Nighthawk R7000 that's been pretty rock solid over the past few years, but as my kids have gotten more devices (iPods, Xbox One, etc.), I've noticed more and more latency on my network. I currently have two Xbox Ones...
