RT-AC68U has crazy WAN dropouts when WiFi signal is poor

The Nexus tablet works fine all around the house. I will try with my other HTC tablet as well, HOWEVER the router cannot be affected by anything, no matter how corrupted are the packets - the protocol is supposed to drop any rubbish you throw at it. Particularly interesting the fact that the...

RT-AC68U has crazy WAN dropouts when WiFi signal is poor

Hello folks, I have been having this weird issue that it is puzzling me. I have a Asus RT-AC68U with the latest stock firmware, I have a feeling the issue got worse using this. The WAN is an ADSL/2+ using a TP-LINK modem in bridge mode. In normal conditions the connection is rock solid - it...

ASUS RT-AC68U Firmware version 3.0.0.4.374.4561 is out

May I ask an important question? Early Merlin firmwares for the RT-N66U and such did not have the beamforming features that made these routers really special. Is it still the case? I can see how beamforming really makes a world of difference (I start with 3 lines of signal and I end up with 5...

ASUS RT-AC68U Firmware version 3.0.0.4.374.4561 is out

Don't forget that source of interference (and even corrupted packets) could come from other routers/devices on the same or close channel. So you can continue to try and test forever, when the issue comes from a neighbour. It is not the first time that I noticed a drop in performances on...

ASUS RT-AC68U Firmware version 3.0.0.4.374.4561 is out

Finally it seems more people have experienced this behaviour with Asus routers. I started having it much earlier with the RT-N66U, but there the whole thing was crashing and going into a reboot loop. It started happening only with the more recent firmwares. I sold it because I cannot stay on an...

RT-N66U upgraded to RT-AC66U: BAD move

I have all the knowledge that I need, thank you. I work in IT, and I did for the past 25 years.

RT-N66U upgraded to RT-AC66U: BAD move

The configuration is identical, parameter by parameter, to the RT-N66U that works like a charm. If you search around the other threads, you will find plenty of similar stories. Here and in other forums. By the way, even if you would send absolute rubbish, conflicting IPs, invalid packets by the...

RT-N66U upgraded to RT-AC66U: BAD move

Well something must be happening, which is specific to this router OR its chipset. Too many people are having the same issue with reboots and crashes. I don't believe that an entire container of devices are released faulty... Regardless, it does not work at all for me, so I will get a refund...

RT-N66U upgraded to RT-AC66U: BAD move

Could you tell me which devices do you use connected to it? I have 12 clients connecting, wired and wireless. IP cameras, Samsung Galaxy S3 Android phones and tablets (Nexus 7, Sony Tablet S), Windows 8 and 7 PCs, notebook. RT-N66U works flawlessly with all of them, RT-AC66U crashes and reboots...

RT-N66U upgraded to RT-AC66U: BAD move

I had enough, I am asking for a full refund. My RT-N66U works with everything and it never ever reboots. 2 brand new RT-AC66U routers with exactly the same issues despite trying multiple firmwares (stock and Merlin)? Using the same identical configuration as of a perfectly working RT-N66U...

RT-N66U upgraded to RT-AC66U: BAD move

Everyone, yesterday I got a brand new AC66U back from RMA (package was sealed). The bad news is that issues persist. Less frequently than with the other AC66U, but they are still there. Device booted normally, I went through the wizard and I was asked to upgrade firmware towards the end of the...

Asus router + modem in bridge mode

Hi folks, I suppose this has been answered a few times. Since I put my Asus router (currently using RT-N66U until my RT-AC66U returns from RMA) with TP-Link TD-8817 modem in bridge mode, I lost the ability to check ADSL sync speed. What is the simplest way to gain access to the modem UI...

RT-N66U upgraded to RT-AC66U: BAD move

Since yesterday evening, I have been running my old RT-N66U with latest Asus firmware, same parameters, yet no issues whatsoever (until now). There are two possibilities here - either the RT-AC66U, since overall prices came dramatically down, had less testing / less quality components or...

RT-AC66U reboots during system recovery... then keeps rebooting every 29 seconds

Same issue here, but mine stops and goes normal for a few more hours if you turn off everything at the power point. Switch + modem + router. Do not power it off, unplug it from the wall for 10 seconds.
