Bringing high speed internet to a new construction

Currently there isn't power at the street. It might be run from the house, but if there's an easier way that would be great.

Bringing high speed internet to a new construction

Where can I get information about such a fiber setup? I'm guessing that would provide a way around ethernet distance limitations.

Bringing high speed internet to a new construction

He was looking at 120/20 Mbps cable plans. I'm told there is line of sight to within 20' of the house.

Bringing high speed internet to a new construction

My friend has a newly constructed house in a suburban area, and the house is 700' from the street. He currently gets only 5Mbps DSL service and no cable service. He really wants to get higher speed internet, which will require additional infrastructure. The cable company quoted thousands to...

Troubleshooting random wireless disconnections from AP

Wow, it must be serious if they had a recall. I contacted Tech Support, but they mentioned it's both expired and was not offered in Canada. They told me I could email the sales department, in case they might accommodate me somehow. It's been a week and they haven't responded.

Troubleshooting random wireless disconnections from AP

I've been running different versions of dd-wrt on the AP (TP-Link WR841Nv8) for several months (currently on build r31899) and have not noticed any more of the "connected but nothing reachable over wifi" drops.

Troubleshooting random wireless disconnections from AP

Wow, I had no idea there were so many reports of dropout issues with TP-Links powerline units. But in this case, if the powerline is the problem, how would the AP's wired clients not also experience the disconnections? Maybe the wired recovers faster and is less perceptible? Right now I've...

Troubleshooting random wireless disconnections from AP

This morning, the wireless AP's (wifi2) is down. It's unusual in that it hasn't returned in a few minutes as most times. This gave me a chance to verify that the printer connected by LAN to the wireless AP's switch is reachable. However the wireless AP's IP is not. I cannot connect to wifi2...

Troubleshooting random wireless disconnections from AP

I don't know if this is helpful, but I'll mention it just in case: the AP's log shows the following chunk of entries roughly every 74 minutes. Note that DHCP is disabled on the AP. Also, they are INFO level log entries, so I assume they don't imply any error. Index; Time; Type; Level; Log...

Troubleshooting random wireless disconnections from AP

Thanks for the reply and suggestions, degrub. The radios are on different channels, 6 and 11. I doubt it's a signal strength issue since all devices connected to the wireless AP lose connectivity (but don't seem to get dropped as clients), including devices directly on top of and in the same...

Troubleshooting random wireless disconnections from AP

modem --> router/wifi1 --> powerline --> AP/wifi2 router = Engenius ESR9850 powerline = TP-Link PA511 Kit AP = TP-Link WR841N wifi1 and wifi2 use same SSID I have my home network setup as above. Most devices connect to the wireless AP on wifi2. But sometimes internet connectivity drops for...

Third Powerline adapter causes Bonjour, Home Sharing drops

I can't stand it when software/firmware versions are not properly named... And yes they often have Windows-only update mechanisms. Is there any web management for your powerline devices? Unfortunately I'm not sure what else to suggest, so hopefully someone else can pitch in here.

Third Powerline adapter causes Bonjour, Home Sharing drops

Are you saying that the shares no longer function but internet, and thus, network, connectivity is still ok? I've recently noticed something similar in that since adding a 3rd (in a strong signal location) and 4th (in a very weak signal location) powerline adapter, the network connection...

    TP-Link PA511 Kit?

I've had the PA511KIT (got 2 kits) for several months now and it seems to be working well. The rate (and light color) vary depending on where in the house they're plugged in. Doing some file transfers I managed to get up to about 30Mbps in some less-than-ideal locations on opposite ends of the...

    VOIP ATA recommendations

Fax has been working fine over VoIP, but I have switched over to using a virtual fax service. The cost can be quite low especially for low-usage clients. I'm paying $0.99 for the DID with free incoming faxes and 3 cents per minute on outgoing faxes.
