Asus Merlin in AP mode vs UniFi access point

Thank you all for chiming in. I recently procured a separate router to run pfSense on so now I am running ASUS as AP only which seems a little wasteful. So I was wondering how motivated I should be to sell the ASUS router and to buy a pure AP instead.

Asus Merlin in AP mode vs UniFi access point

I guess I would be interested in hearing about whatever areas there are differences but primarily I would be curious about reliability of wifi connection given dozens of devices (some "real", some IoT ). For example, with ASUS it seems to me that sometimes I lose signal when somebody does...

Asus Merlin in AP mode vs UniFi access point

How do Asus routers (w/Merlin) in Access Point mode compare with true access points such as UniFi nanoHD? Is either of them much better than the other is some ways or is it a toss-up? Thanks.

    wrong VLAN tags going out

Thanks so much for trying to take me through this. I have added nvram set ctf_disable_force=1 to the script I posted earlier, I also triggered this command in shell, restarted eapd and then rebooted the whole router. The good news is that it did something because now none of my clients want...

    wrong VLAN tags going out

I did after adding the ctf disable lines and moving the killall command around. Not after the ap_isolate, etc that only appeared out of the blue in the last post and that nobody talked about before that, for that I just restarted eapd. Thanks.

    wrong VLAN tags going out

Thanks, I tried nvram set ctf_disable_force=1 nvram set ctf_disable=1 and then even some of the voodoo from the last post in that thread (move killall eapd around, ap_isolate, etc) but to no avail.

    wrong VLAN tags going out

Hi all, I'll try to be brief. I have AC3100 in AP mode with 2 guest WIFIs. I want each guest WIFI to go out over on WAN port on its own VLAN (I am using IDs 9 and 10). To that end, I have /jffs/scripts/services-start script as shown below. When a client connects to WIFI wl0.2, it is assigned...

Toggling "Access intranet" in Guest Network setup kills WiFi

would have to be a usb stick, something to look into perhaps but it certainly would be easier if the router worked correctly. thanks.

Toggling "Access intranet" in Guest Network setup kills WiFi

The Nano is on a robot driving around so tethering it via an Ethernet cable is usually not feasible. It could be used when I need to bring it in for maintenance though. Thanks.

Toggling "Access intranet" in Guest Network setup kills WiFi

It's Nvidia Jetson Nano so it has both wifi and Ethernet. What did you have in mind? I suppose I could plug it into Ethernet for when I want access even though I was hoping to stay fully wireless.

Toggling "Access intranet" in Guest Network setup kills WiFi

I have a device that I want to keep isolated from all my other devices. So I put it on the Guest Network and disable intranet access. However, occasionally, I do want to be able to access that device from my main network so I enable intranet access for those occasions (I am also open to advice...

Toggling "Access intranet" in Guest Network setup kills WiFi

Sometimes I don't notice that this has happened and the clients remain disconnected for hours until I notice and perform the reboot. Haven't tried rebooting the clients but that's not really a solution for me because I have perhaps a dozen of IoT devices connected to it. I can try next time if...

Toggling "Access intranet" in Guest Network setup kills WiFi

Often, after toggling "Access intranet" in Guest Network, WiFi clients lose connectivity to the internet or are unable to re-connect to WiFi (I believe the appearance on the client side is that the password is incorrect). Rebooting the router fixes the problem.

    One way access to guest

Ok, so JDB suggested to "Check your NAT loopback settings" and you're saying there is no settings, can someone tell me what rule to add or what option to enable in order to be able to say from the intranet to the guest network server? Because connecting from the intranet the same way people...
