Run DSM 5 from open source on any x86

I have been running xpenology for about a year and bit now on a HP Microserver G8 booting from a usb drive. It has served me well they are a bit slow at releasing updates to the boot loader when versions drop but still all good. However just this weekend I decided to purchase a DS1515+ as it...

Is there a $100-300 10/100 switch with VLANs?

The new CEO Léo Apotheker that HP has is from SAP hence the push going for a towards the software and managed services end. But anyways :) As for which switch try and grab yourself a procurve 1810-G switch you should be able to get a 8port for around £70/80 and £130+ for the 24 port.

Adding drives with data to WHS?

For WHS2011 the default is stand alone disks if you want redundancy you have three options 1: Hardware Raid ( Decent controller is expensive, cheap ones are FakeRaid) 2: Via the OS create a software mirror/raid 5 ( Overhead and long array rebuilds) 3: Wait for Drive Bender/Stablebit addons...

Having some troubles with my NAS (Running OpenIndiana)

How much memory do you have assigned to it? Anytime I have played around with ZFS/Openindiana/nexentastor community edition the biggest limitation on my transfers was 1: memory the more the better for ZFS ( 5GB+ ) 2: cache drive

    WHS 2011 trial

If you have access to MSDN or technet grab a copy and try it out. Running at the moment, with drive bender can't really fault it so far, compared to the beta from last year. One thing that annoys me is the limitation on the backup sizes.

Adding drives with data to WHS?

WHS V1 =. You add a drive to the pool, data on the disk is wiped and drive is formatted. WHS2011 = You connect the drive to server which has a partition already data will remain unless you format the drive.
