I'm no pro by any stretch, but I very much doubt you would see any difference. That said, I would guess that most people would recommend drives specifically designed for NAS use, such as WD Reds. 7200rpm drives will run hotter and be noisier.

It would be VERY helpful to know the exact order in which the user scripts execute when the router is booted. So as not to leave out any of the scripts, let's assume that a USB device is connected, the VPN (Server or Client) is set to "Start with WAN," and the router is finally re-booted once...

I am trying to automatically run a script when the router connects as an OpenVPN Client to my VPN provider. The script (which opens a port in the firewall among other things) works fine when I run it manually. Using this code in openvpn-event as a simple test.... #!/bin/sh touch...

I'm having the same problem with the openvpn-event script never being called. Is this a known issue? (I am on an older firmware version (3.0.0.4.374.34_2-sdk5), but I don't see any fix for this in any of the recent release notes.)

As a follow-up question, is anyone using Transmission on their router through a VPN successfully? (I.e., with the peer listening port open.) If so, which VPN service are you using? TIA.
