I had a similar issue with my RT-AC68U using stock firmware, so it seems it is not related to Merlin's software. I got rid of it by using "Initialize" (Administration - Restore/ Save / Upload settings) which presumably zaps everything in memory. Following that I reconfigured the box from...

For the record, for completeness' sake, not knowing if you @Kid3t3rnity still visit these forums....... I have fixed the problem on my side. It appears that in firmware branch 382 and higher the OpenVPN client password length is limited to 16 characters. Mine was 20, hence the authorization...

ASUS RT AC68U OpenVPN client broken?

Thank you for your clarification, highly appreciated! The router is running OK now, VPN tunnel up and running, everything seems well.

ASUS RT AC68U OpenVPN client broken?

Well, I finally found the cause for the authentication failure. It was definitely not a typo, the credentials I entered in the router matched the credentials stored at PIA for 100%. However, it appears that the OpenVPN client password length is limited to 16 characters in branch 384 (and most...

ASUS RT AC68U OpenVPN client broken?

Thank you @RMerlin for your reply! I recognize your concern about credentials having to be entered correctly. Knowing myself, being a retired old fart who is an senior typo-expert, I use a KeePass password manager to hold all my credentials. I use that manager to enter my PIA credentials in...

ASUS RT AC68U OpenVPN client broken?

Did anyone manage to get the OpenVPN client of an ASUS RT AC68U working with PIA under stock firmware branches 382 and/or 384? My reason for asking…… I have got an RT AC68U (H/W version E1) which has been running a PIA VPN client under stock firmware 380.7378 for many months without problems...

Follow-up to message #9 ..... ASUS let me know that they can not duplicate the issue. In order to duplicate it they would have to log-in to PIA, which they apparently did not do. End of story. I feel very fortunate there is a wonderful alternative in Merlin's firmware!

It is pretty straightforward, even I with my deteriorating old brain could do it :D VPN setup is quite different from stock firmware, but there is an excellent guide here.

Hi Kid3t3rnity, I am glad you have the issue solved, congratulations! I had less luck. The issue has been escalated by our local ASUS representatives to Taiwan, so far no feedback from them. I tried the 3.0.0.4.382.18881 build last week but it did not solve the issue here, all I noticed were...

Tutorial How to Setup a VPN client including Policy Rules for PIA and other VPN providers 384.5 07.10.18

Thanks @yorgi for this tutorial! I am migrating from ASUS stock firmware to Merlin's magic and I found this tutorial to be a great help to get my PIA VPN tunnel up and running. I have one question left. In the opening post you say: Is this still correct? A lot of other tutorials and topics on...

I am with PIA, but that makes no difference at all for this issue. I gathered there was something wrong with the FW when I updated from a working version to a build which would not connect to PIA. I just wanted to rule out configuration errors from my side, so I revisited the issue this...

Sounds familiar, I spent Saturday afternoon on this issue and I tried again with a fresh approach this morning. Both occasions same result

Yep, same issue here. I rolled my RT-AC68U back to build 830_7378 which works as advertised. I am not aware of a work-around, so I stick with the 830 branch until either ASUS fixes this or until an Asuswrt-Merlin version for my router is available. Did you report this issue to Asus? I did...

    [OFFICIAL] RT-AC68U 3.0.0.4.382.18547

I use a OpenVPN client on my RT-AC68U to connect to PIA (using stock ASUS firmware). This worked like a charm on 380.7378 FW, but with the new branch 382 I can't get the tunnel to connect. Anyone else experienced this? If so, could you find a fix? FWIW, I understood from a post by RMerlin that...
