Moving to 2 floor house, want Asus Merlin comp. router, any reason not to buy the RT-AX88U Pro?

Ooops, just found out I sold the RT-AC56U a while back. No wonder I could not find it... What Access Point or router do you guys advice me to get to solve the situation? Get a new Asus RT-AX88U Pro and set the old Asus RT-AX88U as access point? Get a new mesh system? Any wifi 7 routers coming...

I can now verify that the router alone, can not cover the whole house, so yes, I need a Access Point / Repeater router also. Can find the old RT-AC56U

Moving to 2 floor house, want Asus Merlin comp. router, any reason not to buy the RT-AX88U Pro?

I may end up needing a repeater in the house, I fear that just the AX88U will not cover the whole house (I have to test). Can my old Asus RT-AC56U be used as a good repeater, or do I need to buy a new router and use the current AX88U as the repeater?

Want Asus and Merlin compatible. So, is there any reason to get something 'better' then the Asus RT-AX88U Pro? Edit: I have the older Asus RT-AX88U now.

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 is now available for all supported Wifi 6 models

I need to upgrade the firmware of my router, but will wait for next release I think. Too many reports here of problems with the Asus RT-AX88U

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 is now available for all supported Wifi 6 models

Can it be that some people use some functions in the firmware that triggers the problems?

RT-AX86U PRO page now up ...

If all firmwares after 384 is a problem, well we need to run more then 2 year old firmware. Cannot possibly be all AX88U with 386+ firmware having a problem? Then all kinds of boards would be floded with complaints, and Asus could not have released the firmwares. So do we have any idea why some...

Ok, that was kinda scary to hear. So this is a known problem? No known cause?

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 is now available for all supported Wifi 6 models

Is it a middle-road solution to export and import settings again? That will not mess up anything will it?

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 is now available for all supported Wifi 6 models

Going from a 384 version to this one, on a AX88U, do I need to reset config to default?

RT-AX86U PRO page now up ...

My current router is a AX88U. Any reason to upgrade to a RT-AX86U Pro? Or is any other model 'better'? Since the RT-AX86U Pro just got released, I guess there is no other new model in this range coming soon is there?

Merlin - guest wifi vs let friends join the normal wifi - need advice

I asked because I simply have never set up a dedicated guest wifi net. Reason for me to do so if it makes the rest of our net more secure from viruses etc. And I also do not want my guests to be able to get access to my local network.

Merlin - guest wifi vs let friends join the normal wifi - need advice

No tried, was thinking of a best practice for a setup without installing more on the router except the firmware.

Merlin - guest wifi vs let friends join the normal wifi - need advice

That was a biiiiiiiiit complicated setup :) Was hoping for something a bit more standard, and some advice on why I should have dedicated guest network (for safety reasons).

Merlin - guest wifi vs let friends join the normal wifi - need advice

I have never really bothered with setting up a own guest wifi, the few that I give access get access to the normal main wifi net. But I would like to change this, and I am wondering what is 'best practice' for this? And is it truly much more secure in reference to viruses etc that guest may have...
