Good point about the firmware. But I do not get it why the 88U Pro has better firmware when they have the same hardware. Or does it have another CPU generation (RAM, CPU GHz etc are same numbers)?

Done a bit more searching. I can get hold of a RT-AX88U Pro nicely used, and Asus RT-AX86U Pro are still for sale. Both about same price.

Please stay on topic folks... I have pointed out the AX88U Pro is sadly no longer for sale, at least in my region. AiMesh setup may be the best solution for my case, will look into alternative options for the AX88U Pro.

Yes, this is a problem, the model is no longer for sale. So I am not sure which other model to go for in the AX line. Also, AI mesh with backhaul, need more info on this. Is it just the APs are LAN connected? Not sure my cheap AP support AI mesh.

@Tech9 any chance you can comment on this? I got used to Asus routers and have had close to no problems with them. Also nice we can use Merlin firmware. Top TP-Link routers are even more costly then Asus. The one I linked, its the one you advice to try? Which mesh boxes are best to combine with it?

If going TP-Link, I guess also going TP-Link router is the way?..

Hi Been running a Asus RT-AX88U as main router with a RT-AX1800U as access point (AP for better range wifi). I had to do something because the main router could not cover the whole house, so set up a second cheap router as AP. What I have noticed lately, is that my work computer has the last 2...

Ok thanks. I also got a RT-AX1800U I use as accesspoint, I need to update, and that does not have Merlin, so normal Asus.
