Ok thanks. I also got a RT-AX1800U I use as accesspoint, I need to update, and that does not have Merlin, so normal Asus.Screenshots would be a best option. You could also try updating without a reset - it doesn't mean a config error is likely, just possible. That said, going from 384 to 386 firmware is quite the jump and may need the reset.
You're running Merlin firmware so a good helper would be BACKUPMON, as it saves a text copy of all the nvram settings. In fact some addons (like YazDHCP) have an option to save their settings as a file you can upload later.
