    AC56U firmware options

I don't know if I just got a bum unit, but the AC56U I have is a complete piece of ****. In the few days I've owned it, I've rebooted the damn thing at least 2 dozen times. And it's running as vanilla a configuration as possible, no changes to the default settings outside of SSIDs and...

Cannot access web admin gui on AC68U

Thanks exhibit. Unfortunately, that's the hard reset, which was my last resort. Hated to do it because I had some active file transfers I didn't want to disturb, but it was driving me nuts. Time to upgrade the firmware on this thing and hope it doesn't act up again.

Cannot access web admin gui on AC68U

That won't work in my case - the router is outright refusing connections on 80 and 443. I don't know if there are other ports (I tried the usual suspects of 8000 and 8080) that it might have listened to instead, but until I break out nmap I'm assuming the thing just isn't listening to anything.

Cannot access web admin gui on AC68U

I did some searching and it seems others have had a similar issue; when I tried to get to the web admin GUI I get the following error: Now, this is cached in my browser. When I cleared my cookies and cache I went from that error to a connection refused. In other instances on the forum, it...

Santa brought me interference for Christmas

The number of APs around me here in my congested NYC home went from 12 to about 37 overnight (damn you Claus!!!), and only God knows how many more baby monitors, cell phones, microwaves and all other sorts of 2.4GHz crud hit the airwaves over that time. As a result, my 2 story home that...

    New Synology Models DS411J, DS211J, DS211, DS111

Thanks Alfonz - the links certainly help. Specifically the 'photo resize' test - looks like anything that's not I/O bound is going to really push the CPU to it's limits, as evidenced by the fact that the 411j took 5 times as long to convert the photos to thumbnails as the 411+. Given that I'm...

My First Synology NAS, the DS-410j

Thanks - that's useful feedback. That's one of the reasons I'm on the fence here. It's not as if I bought speedy hard drives to populate the device with (bought 5400 RPM Samsung Spinpoint F4's, which aren't exactly speed demons). At the same time, I plan to use all of the application...

My First Synology NAS, the DS-410j

Either I'm reading them too quickly or some of the reviews of the Synology devices don't clearly indicate whether they're talking megabits (Mb) or megabytes (MB). I'm inclined to believe the both of you, but I'm pretty sure in reading a review of the DS410j I saw somewhere that read performance...

    New Synology Models DS411J, DS211J, DS211, DS111

The DS411j is up at Newegg as well. Given the performance results from the KG site, I think I might wait for the DS411.

DS410 vs. 410j and building RAID5 volume with existing data

Thanks for the info on the RAID - that simplifies life quite a bit. I did happen across the information on the new models for 2011 - not released yet it seems (in the US at least), and not sure how long they'll take to hit the market. Might either make for a better performing system or for a...

DS410 vs. 410j and building RAID5 volume with existing data

Looks like I'm about ready to retire my standalone Linux file server, mostly due to the monthly cost of power racing out of control. I just managed to get a good deal on Spinpoint 2TB drives, but stupidly, I bought 2 instead of 3 or 4 (what I was thinking, I don't know). I've been looking at...
