So Mom gave me a MoCa project and I'm stumped...

Sorry for your loss. When you get back to the project you also need figure out the layout of the coax network. If the amp is located before the first splitter, it should not be a problem for MOCA.

So Mom gave me a MoCa project and I'm stumped...

You need to find the amp and post the model number or a picture it. The picture you posted is the power adapter. An amp will have two or more coax connecters. When you power down an amp without removing it the signals on the coax are effectively blocked.

So Mom gave me a MoCa project and I'm stumped...

In the room with the modem and the router with only one coax connection you need to add a two way coax splitter. Use one of the splitters that came in the MOCA kit as they should be MOCA rated. modem Wall connector-----splitter|...

ICANN reserves .internal for private use at the DNS level

I have always used .test for my local DNS (over 15 years) and see no reason to change. .test is also less letters to type.

    vlan hardware

In your case putting the NAS in a separate VLAN is almost certainly a bad idea. Traffic on the same VLAN/subnet does not go through the router. However, unless you are using layer three switch(es) any traffic between VLANs must go through the router. Have you already purchased the NAS? Qnap...

    Lan-to-Lan VPN between 2 homes

I am not a VPN expert, but this is the first example I have seen of running a VPN server on LAN instead of the WAN. It appears to me that this approach each client still needs a static route to the remote subnet via the LAN IP of the VPN server. It appears that your approach may work for IPsec...

Are newer power line adapters worth trying?

Using WIFI analyzer on my cell phone I found that the other side of the room from the desk had a much stronger signal from the main router. I decided to try a wireless “bridge”. The main wireless router is a Spectrum SAXIVIR WIFI 6 with 4 streams on both the 5GHz and 2.4GHz bands I used a...

Are newer power line adapters worth trying?

I don’t if there is an actual need for more than 80 megabit. They have a fairly new MAC laptop that is used to work from home in that room. They have Spectrum 300 download/10 up. Spectrum overprovisions 20%. On a wired connection or with a good wireless connection speed tests show over...

Are newer power line adapters worth trying?

MY sister-in-law has one room in her house that only gets 80 megabit on 5 GHz WIFI AC and even less on 2.4 GHz. Several years ago we tried a pair of Trendnet TPL_421E2K/A AV2 1200 adapters. The were even slower than WIFI and less stable. Is it worth trying a pair of AV2 2000 adapter?. Any...

Get “enter network credentials” trying to access Synology NAS.

I found that the problem is the LAN Manager authentication level setting in Windows. On the Windows 10 PC that could access the DS423 the setting was undefined. On the Windows 10 PC that couldn’t access the 423 I had it set to “Send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated” The...

Get “enter network credentials” trying to access Synology NAS.

I am setting up a new Synology NAS (DS423). It is running 7.2.6xxx release I have set up a shared folder that isn’t supposed to require a password. On one laptop running Windows 10 and a desktop running Win 8 it works without password. On a different laptop running Win 10 and another desktop...

    Gocoax WF-803M insertion loss?

Does anyone know the loss between the Moca in and TV out port on the WF-803M. If the TV out port isn’t amplified my guess is at least 3.5 db. I am trying to determine why I am getting low signal levels at one of the adapters.

MOCA 2.0 speeds drop after installing Arris S33 modem

Try an addition MOCA filter at the modem (between it and the rest of your coax). Note: If frequencies above 1HHz are being used by/for the modem this will create problems.
