    Orbi RBK 23 Custom Firmware

In short, no. The RBK50 series has at least two popular custom firmware builds but I haven’t seen any popularly supported ones for the RBK23 series. This surprisingly simple concept has several variables to it, most notably the client device. I had the same issues previously with a three node...

Does 802.11k/v/r work with APs individually configured? Or different vendors?

Totally get it. The handoff works well in the circumstances I described with iPhone X and 11 phones on wifi calling using dumb Asus APs. The client rarely drops at all when roaming between APs.

Does 802.11k/v/r work with APs individually configured? Or different vendors?

The only way I have gotten Wi-Fi calling to work well when roaming nodes is by using dumb wired backhaul APs with the same SSID (in the case I'm referring to, using Asus RT-AC86u AP and router). Always had some issue with AIMesh, Orbi, Ubiquiti, Velop, etc etc. - as soon as it transferred...

Does OFDMA Really Work? Part 2

Very helpful, thanks Tim. Since I've put ethernet to all my stationary devices, the only AX devices we have are mobile - and I haven't seen a discernible difference with our RT-AX88U vs. our Netgear AC router whatsoever.

Does OFDMA Really Work? Part 2

Excellent piece @thiggins So if I read this correctly, you've proven that cheap AX/Wifi6 routers like the AX-58U and the RAX15 aren't discernible--or even inferior-- to 4+ year old AC/Wifi5 routers like the R7800?

    The Curious Little Orbi RBR20

    Couple more size comparison angles:

    The Curious Little Orbi RBR20

Yes, you absolutely can. I actually have both RBS50 and an RBS20 and have mixed and matched both with both routers.

    The Curious Little Orbi RBR20

I'm fascinated by the pint-sized Orbi RBR20. Prior to the RBR10, it was Netgear's entry level Orbi product. I, like many OG Costco RBK53 buyers, had dismissed the little one as "less than" - after all, it only has one lonely ethernet port and an inferior wireless backhaul. But if you look a...

    Downsides to the Orbi AC2200?

+++++++ Yes, attic crawl space does wonders for a home network - nearly every stationary device, except IoT devices without a port, are wired for me. That’s TVs, printers, PCs, streaming boxes. I’m left with tablets and phones plus WiFi-only devices (which are mostly low traffic 2.4 clients)...

    Downsides to the Orbi AC2200?

Love it. Thankfully T-Mobile WiFi hotspot runs at 3G. And for now, every VPN he has tried with the combination of Circle + Armor + CleanBrowsing DNS doesn’t work. Guessing he figures a path around/over/under it within a couple of weeks....

    Downsides to the Orbi AC2200?

tl;dr: did 2x RBR20 (1 as router, 1 as AP) and it works great. bought on ebay for $110 for both devices. First Phase - AC3000 / RBK50 I started with the RBK50 (1 router, 1 satellite) kit from Best Buy - had the usual Orbi struggles (rebooting unexpectedly, clients sticking to distant node, etc)...

    Pros/Cons of enabling IPv6

The fact that Netgear buries the ICMP portion of IPv6 in its scarcely documented "debug" page just goes to the heart of it all. Between the router manufacturers, the ISPs and each .gov (not to mention users) IPv6 has an uphill climb for adoption without major changes.

    Pros/Cons of enabling IPv6

Ironically, after reasoning through all this, I am now rethinking whether or not I should be running IPv6. Truly wish there were performance or other benefits.

    Pros/Cons of enabling IPv6

Yes, and apparently, nearly all the other sites too. I counted more people with Asus router firmware problems than sites that are IPv6 only :D

    Pros/Cons of enabling IPv6

This is honestly what is needed here to make IPv6 a reality - mandated compliance. But we do not have a forward thinking FCC in the US.
