Restrict access to LAN devices from VPN connection?

Yeah I should be able to limit the to a port or two. I'll look in to this.

Restrict access to LAN devices from VPN connection?

Looking to get some best practices for securly setting up access to a database that I have running on my local network that I need a few others to be able to access as well. I use an ASUS RT-AC86U with Merlin firmware and I'm thinking the best way to set this up is to setup the OpenVPN server...

RT-AC3100 - Intermittently can't ping devices on the Network

Thanks I'll try downgrading. Given the nature of the issue I'm not sure exactly when it started but might have been around the time I switched to Merlin FW (or just upgrading past that version if ASUS stock is affected too).

RT-AC3100 - Intermittently can't ping devices on the Network

Did you ever find the solution? I'm having the same problem with my RT-AC86U - it's most notable when trying to print from a wireless device to a printer that is also on wifi. When the issue is present, I can see on Windows that the printer is not part of the arp table and unable to ping the...

    Repeater/AiMesh suggestions for RT-AC86U

Perfect just what I needed to know. I figured there would be some drawback to using a cheaper 68U but wasn't finding any other than slightly slower speeds. I'll plan to snag another 86U when I find one on sale. FYI- for anyone else on the hunt for these, I bought an "Acceptable" Amazon...

    Repeater/AiMesh suggestions for RT-AC86U

I just picked up an RT-AC86U for my main router to replace my RT-AC87U (driving factor was better VPN performance). Like a dunce, I planned to make my 87U the repeater but didn't realize it doesn't have repeater mode so here I am. I am doing video streaming for all of our TVs (Netflix/Plex...

    RT-AC87U/R: Cooling solutions

I think I remember seeing someone say they are designed for 100 or 120C. Obviously these run hot, your temps are very normal. I wasn't comfortable so I added cooling to mine like others have (my setup is somewhere in this thread). Right now I'm at 41C - 38C - 53C, so I'm pretty happy with the...

ASUS router script to control EcoBee themostat

For anyone else interested in this setup... I never got around to figuring out how to set up the scripts to accomplish this. However, I did setup an UNRAID server which can run HomeAssistant (https://home-assistant.io/components/device_tracker.asuswrt/). This software can effectively interface...

ASUS router script to control EcoBee themostat

Awesome! I don't have a lot of experience with stuff like this, so I feel better knowing that it is plausible. I'll go though all this stuff and see what I can put together this weekend. I think this would be a nice alternative since those GPS apps aren't always that accurate or quick to update...

ASUS router script to control EcoBee themostat

I looked a little at the Life360 app that IFTTT uses and I'm not a huge fan of it. I'm also concerned it will eat up a chunk of battery polling location data constantly (I keep GPS set to Device Only for this reason). I thought this would be a clean solution that doesn't impact my battery if...

ASUS router script to control EcoBee themostat

Not sure if this is the right place for this, but hopefully someone can point me in the right direction or at least let me know if my idea is possible before I sink a lot of time into it. I have an RT-AC87U running Merlin firmware. I recently installed an EcoBee3 thermostat. I'm thinking about...

[Q] Way to create a network that doesn't use VPN?

Whoops maybe it does. I went down the path of just looking for VLAN info in the wiki by the first reply, which I didn't find what I was looking for. But now I see the specific how-to's. I'll look though those and your link...which should take care of it. Thanks for getting me straightened out!

[Q] Way to create a network that doesn't use VPN?

Can you elaborate? That was my original question, to just have another SSID that does not use the VPN that I can connect to, but I can't see how to set that up.

[Q] Way to create a network that doesn't use VPN?

Wow that seems complicated for this haha! Thank you for taking the time to respond, I will have to read though this and see if I can do it. My other thought was to set a specific IP address and use a policy to not VPN that source IP, then just manually set my IP when I want to shut VPN off on...

[Q] Way to create a network that doesn't use VPN?

I've searched around for this and haven't really been able to figure it out. Can anyone point me in the right direction for creating an easy way to selectively NOT use VPN on demand?
