What's new in WiFi 6 products?

For me the only interesting product would be an access point in ceiling-mount form factor, not an all-in-one router. Also, I would really like 10Gb SFP+ optical interface, which best case may take a while to hit the market, if ever. I could do 5Gb or 10Gb ethernet, though.

What's new in WiFi 6 products?

Anything new from the wifi 6 chipset developers and ceiling access point manufacturers? I'm sure many of us are keeping our powder dry, making do with 802.11ac wave 1 until 802.11ax "wave 2" OFDMA and MU-MIMO of at least 4X4 streams and simultaneous 5GHz radios hits the market. Any news...

    router for home network update

Part of the 10G SFP+ and 10Gbase-T motivation is supporting my next wireless access point. Often these are 2.5Gbase-T or 5Gbase-T. Apparently it is uncommon for 10Gb copper switch ports to support the intermediate 2.5Gb and 5Gbase-T (Nbase-T) speeds? Still early days in 10Gb networking, I bet...

    router for home network update

I moved all my equipment to a rack in a ventilated closet, so noise matters less than when it was in the living room. But it still matters, will use quiet fans.

    router for home network update

I'm pretty sure I don't need the full 1Gb WAN rate for VPN, probably 300Mbps would be fine. I'm thinking of just going straight to an X86 1U Supermicro X10SDV-4C+-TP4F-O D-1518 Xeon with 2 each 10Gb SFP+. This is presuming SFP+ makes sense for the two relevant connections; switch uplink and...

Advice on NAT Gateway Router for Home Use

In my particular neighborhood local network conditions may have been more congested than yours, making the DOCSIS 3.1 a solid upgrade from 3.0 even at 300Mbps internet speeds. YMMV. Over time your neighborhood BW use will only grow, making the difference between 3.0 and 3.1 more noticeable. A...

    router for home network update

Thanks for the tips on 10Gb SFP switches, and an older PFSense thin client. Given the state of flux of 10Gbase-T switches, which is likely what I'll need to connect two desktops and a wireless access point, I think the switch upgrade won't be the subject for today's new hardware. I have a 1U...

Advice on NAT Gateway Router for Home Use

Yeah, this is where the DOCSIS 3.1 would earn it's price tag.

Advice on NAT Gateway Router for Home Use

The better modems would provide full advertised speeds and low latency under less-than-ideal network conditions, evening TV streaming congestion in your neighborhood, heavy uploading (not sure if you use this direction), etc. I'm not necessarily trying to convince you to spend your $$ on a new...

Advice on NAT Gateway Router for Home Use

The Netgear CM1000 or CM1100 are sweet. DOCSIS 3.0 is limiting, you'll notice the upgrade if you choose to spend your network $$ that way.

    router for home network update

It is finally time to updgrade my old Draytek 2130 wired router. It served admirably for nearly 10 years, and can maintain 700Mbit hardware NAT throughput to WAN on my 1Gb Comcast internet, but it is showing it's age with slow VPN encryption and old VPN security standards. And I guess my new...

EnGenius Now Shipping Its 4x4 Wi-Fi 6 AP for SMBs

Good info, thanks. As always seems to be the case, early versions don't support the features that make the new tech appealing. Probably have to wait at least a year for fully-functional 802.11ax in a ceiling-mount form factor.

recommend ceiling mount access point simultaneous dual or tri band AC1900, 3200

Has anybody tried the Linksys Business Pro Series Wireless AC2600 Dual-Band AP yet? Down to $350, looks like a lot of bang for the buck.

Amped Wireless Expands Artemis Wi-Fi Line-Up, Adds AC1300 AP

They performed fine at the event. No noticeable lag compared to the old 100Mb Ethernet rats nest. Uplinked using a Cradle point MBR650 on Verizon, although most traffic was local. Credit card terminals running Linux authorizing EMV chip cards were blazing fast, even using 2.4G 802.11n.

Linksys Releases New MU-MIMO Products: Wireless AP and USB Adapter
