    Regularly lose lan connections

Wut? Is there such a thing?

    Regularly lose lan connections

I’m on the latest stable GnutOn fork of Merlin running on an XT7 mesh. It has always worked well and this version also up to this point. But after having tested installing Tailmon (Tailscale) on the router and removing it again, devices keep losing lan connections every 30 minutes or so, for...

… are Asus betas posted (consistently) on any other forums … ?

Beta ASUSWRT 386 RC3-3 public beta for IPv6 DDNS and IPv6 VPN server

Wouldnt changing the default connection from «Internet» to the vpn connection do it? Press «play» in top of the vpn connection specification window.

Beta ASUSWRT 386 RC3-3 public beta for IPv6 DDNS and IPv6 VPN server

In other words, firmware that works well with StarLink, HAM radio and preferably also smoke signals. But compared to the world I think RC3-3 is stable as steel reinforced carbon fibre in concrete on a plain in mid-Australia.

Strange lan ip all of a sudden

No, I had one vpn config going for certain devices late last year, but disabled it, and besides I don’t remember it being on it’s own (v)lan. Another rogue dhcp in a container on one of the rpis could perhaps have done it, but I haven’t located any. EDIT: I did turn dchp to continuous from...

Strange lan ip all of a sudden

I’m on latest RC3-2 firmware as it has been very stable with new functionality I’m also pleased with. It has been very good as long as I set it to auto-restart every night Anyway, all of a sudden lately some devices can not connect to the internet and on further inspection has got an “10.xx…”...

Beta ASUSWRT 386 RC3-3 public beta for IPv6 DDNS and IPv6 VPN server

Yes and no. You don’t *need* to use Asuswrt_merlin firmware but you need to «trick» your Asus router to install Entware and using partitions on an external drive by booting with an especially prepared USB drive in it. You have to be familiar enough with ssh and the commandline to then install...

Beta ASUSWRT 386 RC3-3 public beta for IPv6 DDNS and IPv6 VPN server

Thanks for the thoughtful reply. I’m certainly not out to vent against or harm Asus, rather I think I have seen them respond to some replies/comments, and just wanted to point out how inconsistently. In a way that got attention. Also to be honest about how frustrating it is not knowing whether...

Beta ASUSWRT 386 RC3-3 public beta for IPv6 DDNS and IPv6 VPN server

For the love of all things digital, please, pretty please, somebody at Asus start answering some of the questions in these beta threads! You have chosen to post your betas to a *forum* after all… I myself am confused about the update cycle and when to expect a GM. Also what’s the roadmap...

Beta ASUSWRT 386 RC3-2 public beta

It seems any devices not explicitly selected on any of the vpn or “internet connections” use the “default connection”. Only one of the connections have a “pause” symbol at a time (meaning it’s in “play” mode when it comes to being the default). Questionable UI though.

    tailscale.com - Wireguard

Old post, but I can comment positively. I was experimenting with the WireGuard server in asuswrt beta RC-2, but it kept taking down my internet after running for a typical day with remote connections. But fast indeed and stable while up. I recently found myself urgently needing to choose a mesh...

Beta ASUSWRT 386 RC3-3 public beta for IPv6 DDNS and IPv6 VPN server

My ISP has a tunnel 6rd setup for ipv6 so I dont know if there’s any benefit in me risking an upgrade to RC3-3 when RC3-2 has been so good to me ? My WAN ipv6 address ends with /30 …. EDIT: … although, after having been remote with a live rc3-2 wireguard server connection for a day, wan...

Beta ASUSWRT 386 RC3-2 public beta

NextDNS has a setting that blocks ways clients might try to bypass NextDNS. These include at least 2 addresses that iCloud Private Relay uses and Apple’s related DOH. But crucially, not just blocking it, as that would make the iPhone hang for a while, but instantly return «0.0.0.0» which makes...

    NextDNS

I have kids and their friends who are too connected for my taste so everyone is *not* free to decide what they want to (or happen to) see here :) Also their ad-riddled surfing isn’t going to slow me down. I didn’t have those options in my version of pi-hole (which I thought was latest) but it...
