Yeah, me too, I was looking at some jffs threads, formatting and the like. There must have been some kind of corruption or maybe the updated firmware kicked it out of it's stuborness.
Problem seems to be solved.
I updated the firmware - it was still a problem - I manually rebooted a few times - the last was via the switch.
Now it appears to be working. I've renamed and changed the IP.
Wierd. I was thinking it was time for another router.
@bbunge
Thanks for the help.
I could indeed try that but I'm doubtful that would work.
I know the network map section can be a bit finicky but doing it the other way shows it isn't working either.
The network map - yes I think it can be finicky but I know how it worked before and trying to do it the other way is also...
Today I noticed my new tablet was shown as "android-something-14" and on my phone using a wifi analyzer it was reported correctly as a Galaxy tab S9+
So that was a bit strange if anyone knows why the AX86U cannot pick this up/
I decided to rename it but it won't rename whatever I do. either in...
Ok, I was a bit aprehensive about that as I have the usual BT master plug that comes in (it has a test socket when a plate is removed and when plate is in place one plug) and that leads to an extension in the bedroom. The router is in the living room and the master plug is in an awkward place in...
Ok thanks I'll look at Grandstream - I'm guessing they all do the same thing. One confusion I came across is that Sipgate (aparently) are not recommending ATAs now. Can't remember now where I saw that. I made me wonder what they "were" suggesting.
I also wasn't sure if my phones were compatible...
As per title, I'm looking to move to VOIP to save some money on my comms bills. My BT landline is little used but I still want to keep the number if possible. However, looking at the deals available I can probably cut my BT bill by half.
Currently and fairly recently I bought a RT-AX86U. I...
I guess multiple uses. Access to some streaming for sure and other geo restrictions. Increasing lack of privacy and tracking (my ISP is known to make use (sellling), of our browsing habits for instance), so the router idea if flexible enough might be the better solution as all devices can go...
OK So this is where I am somewhat confused - if VPN is in the router I always thought all traffic would have to go through it where as when (for instance on the PC) you can just turn the VPN on / off at will via the app.
Can you explain how control of the router based solution can be controlled...
Thanks for the insight Eibgrad.
I am only on 100mbs internet and a little degradation which is expected would be fine.
I am running Merlin but havent' go my head around the ideas you express or the remmote directives but I'll look into that. I'm a bit new to the VPN side of things so have a few...
I'm fairly close to choosing a VPN and haven't used one to date so am still researching best ways to implement it.
Apart from my PC I have 2 android devices and a Qnap NAS and initially it struck me as a sensible move to have everything go through the router setup to use the VPN account...
As per title - didn't have the b*lls to do it but have to wonder when Merlin FW installed - are the firmware checks and notifications telling me of newer Merlin or are they still linked to the Asus official FW updates?
Currently using RT-AX86U.
