Sorry if I've caused confusion. I think the only answer is going to be a fixed IP. My ISP is Toob but that doesn't alter the network architecture used by their wholesaler, City Fibre. Asus provide their own DDNS service and using their DDNS URL for my UK router I can get straight on to the...
While it should in theory be possible to set up a VPN connection outbound from the French mobile router to the UK router, in practice it doesn't work. The Fibre teminates on an ONT with an RJ45 connection to the router. If I try to set up the Asus as a VPN host I get "The wireless router...
I've got that. What puzzles me is that if a smart device in France can connect to a cloud service and I can then access it inbound why can't I establish an outbound VPN connection to UK? The French connection is metered (pretty generous at 300 Gb/month). Whatever's providing the inbound...
I'm intrigued as to how the smart devices remain accessible when a VPN can't connect. The Huawei is fairly limited and doesn't support remote admin so I can only fiddle with it when in France. I use it because a) I need a 4G router as it's in the sticks with no phone lines or fibre for miles and...
Setup is an Asus ZEN WIFi AX Hybrid connected to City Fibre in UK and a Huawei B535-333 4G VOLTE connected to the Free Mobile network in France. In France I have cameras, smart plugs and central heating controller all connected by WiFi and I can connect to them from anywhere. What I can’t do is...
Hi. I have intermittent problems with an RT-AC66U-BI which is sat behind a Soyealink (Huawei) B535-33 4G mobile router. The Asus periodically loses Internet connectivity (Internet LED Red) but regains it on reboot.
The 4G router is in Bridge Mode so it is acting like a modem.
I'm wondering if...
Not quite right. The behaviour is difficult to pin down and as far as I can see the lack of connectivity is not connected to the reboot. I have had the following situations
1. WiFi clients cannot access Internet. They are showing as connected to WiFi but have no Internet access. Power cycle of...
I'm not arguing. In an ideal world nothing would ever go wrong but we don't live in an ideal world, which is why UPS's, backups and all the rest of the fallback systems exist. I wouldn't for example say that "A UPS is a "band aid" solution, you should have dual or triple diversity mains power...
I’m not using it as a band-aid and it’s not a network issue. Nothing wrong with the network. It’s a remote site in a different country and can be unattended for months. Loss of connectivity can be caused by a variety of things, including mobile network and power outages and electrical storms...
Thanks for the suggestion. I did previously have that setup but the smart plug (Tapo) failed to OFF leaving me with no access and no monitoring at the remote site. I was trying to reduce potential failure points. Last night I had a variation. No Intenet but WiFi still working so I logged in to...
Seems not to be possible to set the routers to reboot at different times. The main Administration/System tab allows reboot day and time to be set but go to AIMesh and there’s no option to set a different time for the node.
Odd behaviour. I have a pair of RT-AC66U B1 as a mesh network. They sit behind a Soyealink (Huawei) mobile router in Bridge Mode acting as a modem which provides the Internet connectivity. The Asuses are set for automatic reboot in the small hours because the location is often unattended and I...
