Budget router with good coverage ?(c1200,rt-ac1200, dir-842 or rt-ac53)

Take a look at the Asus RT-ACH13. It sells for about $65US, and it provides excellent coverage in my three floor vacation house, with excellent stability.

Recommendations for Single floor Home Network

I have FiOS too. I'll assume you have FiOS TV. If you're not using the FiOS router's wifi, there's no reason to replace it and it should remain as primary router. Whatever model you have is good for your current speed. If you upgrade to gigabit FiOS will give you the G1100 router (or...

    Buying Advice

If you're going to go with Asus I suggest, as I mentioned above, that you go with the $200 RT-AC86U. It's is actually newer and more powerful than the $269 RT-AC88U, and a better performer than the $200 Asus AC 3200 tri-band.

    Buying Advice

The X4S R7800 is an excellent router with great range and stability. If you are going to rely on using an attached NAS Netgear's ReadyCloud service is a bit flaky. If you want to stay in the $200 range, there is also the excellent Synology RT2600ac, very similar in hardware to the X4S but does...

upgrade router - thinking mesh possibly

You shouldn't need a mesh system. The R7800 has great range and should easily handle your apartment. There's also the excellent Synology RT2600ac and Asus RT-AC86U. These are $200 routers that will do the job.

EA9500, X4S, AC88U or None of the Above?!

I really tried to like the R7800. And I did like it. It's a fine, well made device with excellent hardware. But I wanted to use router-attached storage and that Readyshare is unreliable crap and Netgear support is nonexistent. I ended up going with the Synology RT2600ac, and found a gem...

R7800 with BT SmartHub - Setup Problem

When you put the R7800 in AP mode its IP address changes to one assigned by the primary router. You have to determine its new IP address then you can log in as usual.

Options to replace my Orbi system

If the width of your house is only the 50-60 foot length of that Ethernet cable, you should not need a mesh system, or even an AP in addition to a router. I suggest you try either the Netgear X4S (R7800) or the Synology RT2600ac. Both sport the same fast CPU and have great range and reliability.

    Readycloud and disappearing folder

Not good. I'm not a fan of keeping a device when a feature of that device does not work. This router has been out for two years, so if they haven't figured it out by now they probably won't. I don't have the time or inclination to endlessly tinker and go around in circles for no reason. I...

For maximum coverage and speed, what is better X10 or X8?

And Ubiquiti isn't all it's cracked up to be. I bought a Ubiquiti access point, and wifi speeds were all slower that the Apple Airport Time Capsule I had at the time.

    Readycloud and disappearing folder

I appreciate the information, Voxel. I did it all. Still could not see the ext4-formatted drive on Readycloud, and although I could see the drive locally, I could no longer drag files to it in Mac's Finder. So I am back to FAT32 format, so at least I can see and use the drive locally. But I...

    Readycloud and disappearing folder

Thanks for the info. Makes sense to format as ext4. Id love to, but I can't figure out how. The option is not available on my Macs, and while my Synology router had a format function, I can't find one on the R7800. Maybe add it to 46F? :-)

    Readycloud and disappearing folder

Ok, so I replaced my cheap Micro Center flash drive with a Sandisk, one from the recommended list. That seems to have solved the disappearing folder problem. Now I am able to see the folder locally, but it is not accessible through Readycloud. Any help would be appreciated.

"What NETGEAR devices support Amazon Alexa?"

The point is that you enable a skill in the Alexa app and link that app to the Netgear app, and you can issue some rudimentary commands to Alexa like "Alexa, ask Netgear to reboot my router."

    Readycloud and disappearing folder

Well if it's flaky with stock OR custom firmware that doesn't leave many Readycloud options. I'm thinking maybe it happened because I'm using an inexpensive Micro Center flash drive...?
