    Netgear HomePlug 500Mbps

Hi, Does anyone have experience with how the latest Netgear (or Trendnet for that matter) HomePlug adaptors perform when they are on different ring mains / separated by a circuit breaker? I'm hoping to connect the home server on the second floor to a HTPC on the ground floor. Sockets on...

Wireless access problems on home network with WHS

Hi, I hope someone can shed some light on my current home network problems, or at least suggest a process of how to identify the issue. Current setup is a self-built WHS box connected via gigabit to a Linksys WRT610N simultaneous 2.4 and 5Ghz 802.11n router, which in turn is connected to...

    Home Network Router Problems

Have seemingly solved the issues I was having by turning off remote access on the Home Server. Fingers crossed no further network drop outs and can consistently access the WRT610N. No remote access is no big loss for me and probably safer anyhow. Cheers for the suggestions

Advice on setting up a new coaxial/MoCA network

Tim, thanks again for your rapid response. Media Center/PowerDVD/TotalMediaTheater etc don't have the facility to increase buffer sizes to cope with the inherent problems of wireless. Do you know of any filesystem level utility which, for instance, can present a local file to the player which...

Advice on setting up a new coaxial/MoCA network

Thanks very much for the quick reply. I've tried both 2.4 and 5Ghz bands and both suffer from stuttering. I don't fully understand the issue as simply transferring the .mkv or BDMV folders from HTPC to server (8-9.5 MB/s) is accomplished well within the running time of the film so the raw...

    Home Network Router Problems

Network diagram attached. I will try an update firmware. WRT610N is a fairly mature product by now so will be surprised if this basic problem hasn't been ironed out already. Currently have the same problem again. The Linksys seems to be doing its job correctly i.e. I'm on the laptop...

Advice on setting up a new coaxial/MoCA network

My current setup is a living room (ground floor) HTPC with a Home Server in the first floor study directly above. I have a Linksys WRT610N connected to the Home Server but even on 5GHz 802.11n there is insufficient speed for streaming 1080p movies. I didn't bother trying powerline as the rooms...

    Home Network Router Problems

I've recently set up a small home network including a windows home server and a core i3 based HTPC. Internet is via O2 (Wireless Box II) and a Linksys WRT610N router is connected to this as an access point using advice from this site. The O2 box address is 192.168.1.254 and controls DHCP...

    Which dual band router setup?

Thanks for the reply and the pointers - I agree a single radio dual band router running a 5Ghz network is cheapest and all thats necessary (I'm looking at the Linksys WRT320N). In terms of connecting it up you may tell me that configuring as an access point is the best way but I just wanted...

    Which dual band router setup?

Hi, Would appreciate some advice on how to optimally arrange a home network. Currently I have a 802.11g O2 wireless box with 100Mbps ports. In the process of building a Home Server with dual Gigabit ethernet which will stream films to a HTPC in the living room and music to various...
