MAC address of the AP has no effect on clients being able to reconnect.
I've changed my WiFi APs several times over the years and kept the same SSID / password. I've never had to configure clients again, they always connect automatically.
Don't want to cause a panic, but the 5GHz radio on one of my R7800s has started to act up as well. Clients can't connect most of the time, and even when they do, they get kicked off within a minute and performance and latency are all over the place within those 60 seconds that they stay...

Both my R7800s are running .86SF as APs, no issues whatsoever.
I would recommend flashing to NG .82 stock, doing a factory reset, then flashing back to .86SF and doing a factory reset again and then configuring it from scratch.
I have owned some ASUS routers in the past (AC66U, AC3200), both were very good and I was very impressed with their regular software updates, even for older routers. Merlin's custom FW is really great as well.
Don't get me wrong, the R7800 is a very capable router and Voxel's firmware is the...

I had been away from home for 3 months and was therefore unable to keep my R7800s up to date with Voxel releases. Last version they were running was .79SF. Both of them had around 102 days of uptime, zero issues. Thank you Voxel for the great stability and performance with every release.
Just...
Had 41 days of solid uptime on .79SF with great performance. Thank you Voxel.
The only thing I miss about running OpenWrt on my R7800 was the GUI, Netgear has done a terrible job with the Netgear Genie and I absolutely hate it. Thankfully I rarely have to log in to it because everything just...
My first R7800 was quite expensive so I never thought of getting a second one.
I wasn't even looking for a second one, I just stumbled upon an ad for one in my local classifieds. They're quite hard to find here so I was really surprised.
Bought it immediately. Now I have one as an AP as...
Ah yes this issue. It's a real pain in the butt to transfer files to my Raspberry Pi because of this.
Other than the file transfer / Access Point mode issue, basic functions are working well and there's no 5GHz instability like there was on .58.
What version is your FW currently based on?
Two R7800s here. One router and the other used as an AP.
Both were rock solid on .63. The router had 99 days of uptime before I updated it to .68 and it's been working perfectly since the update.
About 12 days of uptime so far, no complaints.
