Morning Volt.
Thanks for the above advice.
I tried the above and although the 'Wireless Mode' didn't seem to have any effect when I changed the 'Control Channel' to Auto it actually gave me the speeds and range far better than the Nighthawk so thanks!
Unfortunately it picked Channel 100 which...
Thanks everyone for the advice.
I have followed the steps but unfortunately nothing has improved the range. The R7000 was far better so maybe the AX88U is performing how it should but is just inferior when it comes to range?
I am partly considering sending the AX88U back and instead purchasing...
Haha, I'm exactly the same with underscores and hyphens. I like the spaces as they look cleaner for my OCD.
Thanks for the information, I will give it a go tomorrow.
Keegs.
Sorry I should have clarified that.
I used 2 brand new SSID's so on the Nighthawk I had 'Wireless Home and Wireless Nighthawk'
For the Asus I use 'WiFi Slow and WiFi Fast'
Pain in the arse to manually connect each device again but I wanted a complete clean network setup.
The only setting I...
Evening.
Recently replaced my Nighthawk R7000 with the RT-AX88U due to the R7000 starting to give up with weekly reboots.
Set the AX88U up and am currently running the stock updated firmware and have all my devices connected with static IP's and the network is now running smooth with no need...
Thanks for the pictures of your settings. I'll have a look through them when I receive my new router.
As you mentioned the R7000 has been brilliant for the last 2 years but it now suffers weekly dropouts that require multiple restarts to get everything back working.
I actually took people's...
Thanks to everyone for your help and discussion.
I have taken it all on board and after having a rethink and a look round the forums I might just pay the extra money and pick up the RT-AX88U as it seems to be highly regarded and I am struggling to find anything bad. It also seems to tick all my...
Yeah I always split my SSID's as I have found any companies version of Smart Connect to be troublesome. I find most devices default to the 2.4GHz range for the stronger connection when if forced to stay on the 5GHz they are absolutely fine.
Thanks for your honest opinion. Throws a spanner in...
Yes? You rated the AC86U higher than the AX58U.
But the AX86/88U are not available that cheap here so although id love the best one my choice lies with the above 2 and in post #17 the AX58U is recommended as the one to get.
I suppose it comes down to different setups and opinions.
Thanks for your reply.
My only concern with the AX58U was a few bad reviews I have read about compatibility issues with some WiFi 5 devices. I'm hoping this is firmware issues though that can be resolved as opposed to hardware reviews.
Gonna be purchasing tomorrow so i still have a bit more...
Thanks for everyone's thoughts and input.
I'm gonna take the plunge and go for the RT-AC86U for the moment and get Merlin installed on it as it fits my current requirements.
RT-AX58U looks great but seems like a weaker option of the 2 as I don't require WiFi 6 compatibility yet.
