Router stops when connected to Smart Switch

Questions: I have the default gateway for the network as the router's ip address, should it be changed to the switch's ip address? Also I can only find 2 settings on the router that might affect its' communication with the switch, dhcp routing (i.e. to secondary routers behind it) and...

Router stops when connected to Smart Switch

I have tried both ideas. The workstations see each other when manually assigned ip addresses. I reset the switch back to factory defaults and rebooted it over the lan (thru netgears windows utility). When it boots back up, it does not see the dhcp server of the router because it sets itself...

Router stops when connected to Smart Switch

Thank you both, I will give those a try. Yes I connected the router to the switch with one lan cable, checked the specs to ensure it does auto mdi-x and even tried a x-over cable just to be safe. I do not believe this switch supports POE. They are both plugged into the same surge protector...

Router stops when connected to Smart Switch

Hello everyone, I recently purchased a Netgear Prosafe GS716t smart switch for my home network. My challenge is every time I connect my router (ASUS RT-n56u) to the switch, the router stops working (even all the lights go off) causing my pc's to be disconnected. I am new to smart switches...

Anything better than QNAP TS219P for the $

Ds209 I don't have any experience with the QNAP, but I bought a DS209 a few months ago and I have been happy with it. I would buy it again. There is a Synology wiki that has a lot of step-by-step informaiton if needed. It is a very easy setup and I have had no problems with it. Dave

    New Router ?

I am evaluating a new N router for my home. I need to have a gigabit switch since I am running a NAS. I have narrowed it down to 2 based on pricing and my needs (I wish I could afford the WNDR 3700!) I am looking at: Engenius ESR-9850...

209 owners and windows photo question

I recently purchased a DS209 and my experience has been pretty good with it. The computer I have connected to my wired network (Windows XP Pro) edits files quickly on the DS209, although I am not editing photos. If you don't have a gigabit router, I would recommend purchasing one. Dave P

    ReadyNas Duo vs DS209

I tend to research things to death and I am looking to make this purchase at the end of this week, beginning of next week. I just notice the QNAP TS-210 announcement on the front page of smallnetbuilder. it seems pretty comparable to the dS209 in price and features. I have heard hear and...

    DS209 2nd disk

I'm sorry I meant the first drive(i must have fat fingers), i know the data would be lost on the second hd. I bought a brand new hd that matches my existing drives. I wanted to install, configure, and setup the first drive in the NAS; then copy my data to it; then insert the second (existing)...

    DS209 2nd disk

Hello i am looking at a DS209 for my first NAS. I am re-using one existing drive and a brand new one (same make/model) that are relatively new and compatible with the unit. If I put in the first hard drive (the new one), configure it, and copy all my data to it; can I then put in the second...

    ReadyNas Duo vs DS209

Thecus N2200? I've been looking thru forums, reviews, etc. and it seems like the Duo's reliability is inconsistent.. By that I mean if you get a good one- no problems, but if you don't - you're in trouble. Based on that and becuase my HD's are not compatible I have eliminated it. But now...

    ReadyNas Duo vs DS209

File size One last thing. I think for me it comes down to speed. I do have some files that are 30 mb and in the future i wouldn't be surprised to see 100mb file sizes or more (revit files are notoriously big). Would i see any noticeable improvement with the DS209 over the Duo in that case...
