Solved Seeking Wi-Fi range extender with cable signal input

I meant that it is unclear what that 1 ethernet port is for: 1. To connect a device that wants an ethernet network connection 2. To connect to the main router whose Wi-Fi signal it will extend. I doubt that one port could serve both functions... possible, but doubtful.

Solved Seeking Wi-Fi range extender with cable signal input

Yes, thanks. I read that as well... but it seems confusing at least to me as there is only 1 ethernet jack from all the photos I can see searching the internet. I agree that I should check further with the manufacturer. So far I have not received any replies on the manufacturer forums...

Solved Seeking Wi-Fi range extender with cable signal input

Thanks for the reply. The page at the link you provided says: "Gigabit Ethernet port - Act as a wireless adapter to connect a wired device to your network at Gigabit speed" I see this type of description on many products. But that is what led to my original question. I interpret it to...

Solved Seeking Wi-Fi range extender with cable signal input

Hi, I am wondering if there are any products that do range extending but that get their signal to extend from wired input via a Cat6 (or Cat5 or Cat5e or whatever) signal. I am wondering if there are products similar to the range extenders that you plug into an electrical socket (not...

Switch approach to PoE Devices and Backup Power

One piece of advice would be to consider putting the cameras on a separate switch. Of course, it depends on the camera resolution, number of cameras (eventually that you expect to have) and so forth. Are you planning to use a network video recorder (NVR) for the cameras? Do you plan to have...

WAN or LAN port to connect an Access Point (AP) router to a main router?

Wow... That wasn't patronizing at all....

WAN or LAN port to connect an Access Point (AP) router to a main router?

I meant the protocol for negotiating router-to-router connections. Routers exist in a tree structure. So my router must connect to a router at the premises of my internet service provider (in my case my cable company). I think the DOCSIS protocol sits below what the router-to-router...

WAN or LAN port to connect an Access Point (AP) router to a main router?

Thanks for your reply. Actually this part of the manual is precisely where I was reading and where I was confused. I didn't want to play with my configuration as I didn't want the other working adults in my home to kill me if their network connection went down. :( I guess that you first...

WAN or LAN port to connect an Access Point (AP) router to a main router?

Hello folks, I have two Synology RT2600ac Wi-Fi routers. One is my main router which is connected via its WAN port to my cable modem. The second one is configured in Access Point (AP) mode and is connected to the main router via a Cat6 Ethernet cable. I was just playing around today because I...

Seeking buying advice for a 48-port unmanaged switch

Gentlemen, I decided on the TP-Link JetStream 48-port Gigabit Smart Switch T1600G-52TS: http://www.tp-link.com/us/products/details/cat-40_T1600G-52TS.html I think it is a reasonable price for the features, has many features to keep my busy learning, and has very impressive reviews on Amazon...

Need help setting up Synology RT 2600ac router in Access Point mode

Hello folks, OK, I was successful finally configuring my two Synology routers, the first one being the "main" router and the second one being the "AP" router. It turned out to be embarrassingly simple. In retrospect I now see how I confused myself. The explanation is at the end of this post...

Need help setting up Synology RT 2600ac router in Access Point mode

I will most definitely post screen shots and an ordered list of steps when I finally get it working. I completely agree with you. Forums with mature, knowledgable adults are simply wonderful. I really like the community spirit of the good forums. And I'm learning a lot. I will check out...

Need help setting up Synology RT 2600ac router in Access Point mode

Great, thank you, Trikein. I find that the user guides and manuals are missing a tremendous amount of information. None of this stuff is in there. Nor is it in the manuals of other manufacturer's products. I created my initial questions by reading many forum posts on many sites including...

Need help setting up Synology RT 2600ac router in Access Point mode

Do you mean this screen shown in the first attachment? If so, I don't think I understand what needs to be modifying there. I thought that I would change to the Wireless AP mode on the Operations Mode tab, shown in the second attachment, after doing all the config discussed so far in this...
