Network scanner app recommendations for Windows and Android

some devices get their names picked up and some not. Keep in mind, my device is a small volume, narrow focus wifi accessory. It may not have its name info in place where some software can find it. I really don't know and I am certainly not any kind if wifi/internet expert. Just reporting what I...

Network scanner app recommendations for Windows and Android

I just tried Network Analyzer Android app. That one shows the name very clearly and MAC. Not sure why none of the Windows apps seem to find the name.

Network scanner app recommendations for Windows and Android

Advanced IP scanner does the trick. It shows the Mac Address which I don't see in AngryIP. Since I know the Mac address of my device, i can find it that way. Thanks.

Network scanner app recommendations for Windows and Android

Yes, exactly. I tired Angry IP on my laptop and while it sees the connection, it doesn't find a recognizable name. I also have now tried Fing on my phone and that seems to work better. It does find the device name.

Network scanner app recommendations for Windows and Android

Hi all. I am looking for current network scanner apps; apps that can see connected wifi devices and show their IP. I want to have one on my windows laptop and one on my Android phone (Pixel 6). I see a lot of them out there. I am working with a wifi module called Wifilogger that installs in a...

intermittent wiring problem stops entire wired home network

So just a final (I hope) update. I replaced the Zyzel AP with a new one from TP Link and the system has been stable for a few days now. So it now seems the the recent problems had more to do with the AP going South somehow rather than the crossed wiring. As I recall, a similar thing happened...

intermittent wiring problem stops entire wired home network

well the drama is not quite over. I got home yesterday and wired internet was frozen again so fixing the crossed wiring was not the entire problem. I had my suspicions. As I mentioned before, that upstairs outlet feeds a 4-port switch which feed just two devices: a Western Digital WDTV box and a...

intermittent wiring problem stops entire wired home network

intermittent wiring problem stops entire wired home network

Well hopefully I found and fixed the problem. Turns out the color pattern was different at each end of the run through the house. The office end was pattern A and the jack up in the bedroom was pattern B. I understand how this happened because there were two different installers at different...

intermittent wiring problem stops entire wired home network

I am actually pretty technically proficient; just never did this particular operation before. I just hate intermittent stuff. I do appreciate all the advice. Off to HD now to get the stuff. I will let you all know how it goes.

intermittent wiring problem stops entire wired home network

well that is what I figured but seems weird that the issue only comes up if the wall jack has something plugged in if the issue is in the jack. If it was in the cable plugging in, changing the cable should have fixed it. I doubt I have shielded cables or the right type of connectors for shielded...

intermittent wiring problem stops entire wired home network

I have some network cables going through my house and I have an intermittent issue I would like to get some advice on. I will describe the overall setup first. My network starting point is downstairs in my office. There is a cable modem followed by a Linksys router and then a switch for more...

Netgear R6700 stopped working after two years

I found the problem and it wasn't the router. I have some CAT6 cables running through my house to access points. They terminate at wall mounted jacks. The cable plugged into to one of the jacks was getting squashed by a piece of furniture. That was somehow caused the router to not work. When I...

Netgear R6700 stopped working after two years

I have an R6700 in my house. I forget exactly how long but probably something like two years. It has worked fine until a few days ago when it suddenly stopped working. It will no longer pick up an IP from my Comcast cable modem. The modem seems ok because if I plug into it directly, I can get...

a little confused about backup methods

Thanks for the reply. I have been using the Synology synching app. I think their names are confusing and they keep changing them but otherwise my entire windows user directory is synched to a folder on my Synology drive. So that gives me real time back up. So here is what I mean about Synology...
