Yes I know that too, I still have both of those and on both is AsusWRT-Merlin installed. There isn't even an specific AsusWRT-Merlin firmware for the RT-AC66_B1. And the website states to use the RT-AC68U firmware instead. Although I believe it's not supported annymore now. But the point was...

Never tried it, but I suppose my old RT-AC66U_B1 will not be verry compatible with the RT-AC2900 AsusWRT-Merlin firmware.

I've had an RT-AC86U before. And after some while connections were dropping. When I logged into to the router then only a few wireless divices were still connected or only the 4 wired UTP ports. I've had the RT-AC86U and the RT-AC2900 before. They're actually completely the same hardware as I believe. Having the same RAM and CPU and running the same Merlin firmware. Although the RT-AC2900 is a few years younger. But I had some problems with both of them. Like dropping connections etc...

I would like to use the home assisstant Command_line_ sensor to notify me when there's an update available for my RT-AC2900. I've SSH already enabled for some other purposeswith HASS. But annyone anny idea how to find this "new update" flag in the router?

Maybe a bit late, but maybe Home Assisstant could help out with this? HASS has a ASUS-WRT plugin, which is compatible with the AC86U and is therfore able to recieve a few router sensors. Like the amount of conneced devices and data transfer etc. ASUSWRT - Home Assistant (home-assistant.io)
