ASUS RT-AC88U running AsusWrt-Merlin 2.4 GHz Guest networks not working

Just recalled that I'm using the 2.4 GHz radio on my "first router" (the one exhibiting the problem) to connect a wireless bridge in my family room. I wondered if that could contribute to the problem so I disabled it and rebooted but it didn't fix anything. I still cannot connect to my 2.4 GHz...

ASUS RT-AC88U running AsusWrt-Merlin 2.4 GHz Guest networks not working

Fair enough. Although my IoT device stopped working months ago, it's a toy so I set it aside until I had more time. Just picked it up again last night, and since I have a workaround it's not urgent. If I don't come up with any other ideas I may do just as you suggest. Thanks again.

ASUS RT-AC88U running AsusWrt-Merlin 2.4 GHz Guest networks not working

As I said, my IoT device connects to my other router just fine. I compared the 2.4 GHz radio Pro Settings on the two routers and found minor differences, so I changed the first to match those on the second (the one that my device connects to). Still doesn't work. I don't routinely do factory...

ASUS RT-AC88U running AsusWrt-Merlin 2.4 GHz Guest networks not working

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried setting the MAC filter to disabled, even though I believe in 'Reject' mode it just rejects the listed MACs. No joy though. I have another RT-AC88U configured as an access point on the other side of the house. My IoT device connects to it, so I have a...

ASUS RT-AC88U running AsusWrt-Merlin 2.4 GHz Guest networks not working

I've had this router since 2015 and run AsusWrt-Merlin the entire time. It's running the latest firmware (384.19). I've had an IoT device connected to one of my 2.4 GHz guest SSIDs for over a year. On December 19, 2019 I checked its logs and saw that it lost its connection and cannot restore...

Can't connect to RT-AC88U after failed attempt to add as AiMesh node

SOLVED. With Ethernet cable from laptop plugged into LAN port on the node, I powered the node up and let it boot completely then held down the reset button for a LONG time, at which point the power light began flashing. I manually set my laptop's address to 192.168.1.2 and entered 192.168.1.1...

Can't connect to RT-AC88U after failed attempt to add as AiMesh node

I've had a backup RT-AC88U in my closet for some time and decided to try it out as an AiMesh node this weekend. I did a factory reset, then upgraded to ASUSwrt/Merlin 384.13. It booted fine after the upgrade, and I selected the AiMesh node option in Administration and it said if I continued it...

Where is ping response coming from?

Thanks for your interest but RMerlin's response helped me understand this. Apparently the router always responds to pings originating on the LAN, even if they're directed to its WAN address.

Where is ping response coming from?

Had my wife do that from work, and it times out. Can you help me understand where the response comes from, and why? As I mentioned above, the device is configured not to respond to a ping and when I ping its LAN address from inside the network I get no response. I see that I can ping the router...

Where is ping response coming from?

I've got an ASUS RT-AC88U Router running ASUS-WRT Merlin 384.10, and I'm using port forwarding to put a device I'm developing on the Internet so script-kiddies can help me test my code. Today I turned off the device's ping response to see if that got less attention and was surprised to see that...

    Asus AC-5300 Port Forwarding

My Asus router is the only router in my system. I did access the webserver via its external address from inside my network. After reading your comments, I also allowed it to sit unprotected on the internet until some script kiddies stumbled upon it and got a real IP address for each one.

    Asus AC-5300 Port Forwarding

I port-forwarded a web server to the internet on my RT-AC88U running the 384.7 version of Asuswrt-Merlin and I notice that the firmware reports every remote client that connects to it from the internet has the router's LAN IP address (192.168.1.1). Are you seeing the same thing? It would be nice...
