    RT-66x beginner questions

My want was/is a LAN-wide management tool, such as the tool UniFi {allegedly - I've not used it} & others such as ZyXEL offer; so you can see the big picture of the LAN, not the lone AP. Are they also weak spots? I fully agree re: the folly of allowing outside access to the LAN. I was looking...

    RT-66x beginner questions

I knew it was a dummy demo, but it was not clear if if was internal i.e. one unit only, or it it was external/managed all on the LAN. I'm disappointed there is not a utility for same as I've found on competitors. My concern is the heat sink fins run across the unit. That's OK horizontally...

    RT-66x beginner questions

A friend bought multiple RT-66W's and then decided to ask me how to deploy same. I've read the so-called Fine Manual, parts of the mega topic here, and other sources, but still have multiple questions. U vs W What are the differences between the U I see reviewed here and the W's he bought...

ZyXEL USG40 Next-Gen Unified Security Gateway-Performance Series Reviewed

Thanks for the reassurance. I thought that was the case but the silence in the review on same bothered me...had I overlooked something?

ZyXEL USG40 Next-Gen Unified Security Gateway-Performance Series Reviewed

Maybe I missed something, but my interest in this unit is for managing a gaggle of ZyXEL AP's. I thought this unit had that function but now I wonder if that's only with the USG40W which has an internal AP.

    AC print servers

I'm seeking an inexpensive print server for a Xerox Phaser 8560N "candle-melter" aka wax printer. There are lots of adapters listed here, and I read about testing them, but printerservers need some backchannel scheme to configure them; I assume they are a special case for that reason. I...

    Anyone use Zyxel access points?

I'm also looking at ZyXEL, based on friend's experience with them, and my own w/ their firewalls. One minus is their outdoor unit is $900 vs. $400 for UniFi, but their indoor dual freq are far cheaper. To me, it's a wash pricewise.

    Ubiquiti UniFi AP-AC Reviewed

I've been there. One of the issues was I found it hard to find basic data to study before posting stoopid questions. Another is Ubiq has multiple disjoint product lines; UniFi is but one of their wireless offerings. But nowhere does their site bother to say that; it took a while to grok that the...

    Ubiquiti UniFi AP-AC Reviewed

I guess I seek more reassurance/peace of mind than I've found so far reading up on UniFi. For example, their own store's search function does not show me what "Edge Light" is. {I would call their site chaotic, at best...} And this remark. And this saga. I'm also looking at ZyXEL's...

Ruckus Announces Affordable AP Product Line

You have some objection to allowing virtually anyone in China and Russia help you run your network????????? [Not to mention Ft. Meade] I was initially excited by the ruckus over Ruckus, but not now. Still wary re: UniFi but not seeing alternatives.

New House Network Design - UVerse ISP

Friends in 92082 have Mediacom running down the road, but they won't serve the house as it's >300ft back from the road. We're trying U-verse for IP only. In general, the best place for data and help on cable and U-verse is dslreports.com -- at the worst you'll find fellow victims. ATT is now...

Need to rework and improve my home WiFi

Meetoo; I'm hoping to learn from those ahead of me. It seems essential given Ubiq's sales model of "jump first....look for water later...."

    Large home, roaming wireless setup

Argh... I was thinking you'd have adjacent floors on different channels as I do now. That way they can't interfere. Looks like UniFi ZH is worth avoiding; not sure that /dev/nulls their candidacy....

    Ubiquiti UniFi AP-AC Reviewed

Antenna gain benefits both ends of the equation - it adds the same dB gain to a transmitted output as to the received signal...

    Ubiquiti UniFi AP-AC Reviewed

So I've been rereading this thread seeking more clue. I have a job in an upscale house for 4 internal & 1-2 external AP's. Others have recommended UniFi but there is this sorta swiss cheese type data. Some things never mentioned to my confusion. Thoughts/questions: Router? What's that? All...
