    Thunderbolt 3

That was hard terminology for me to understand. I'm not tech savvy. For example interface, protocols, architecture, chip set and bus bottleneck. For the QNAP TS-453BT3 in particular does it share bandwidth between its two TB3 ports and does it have PCIe interface limitations?

    Thunderbolt 3

Good questions and I agree the speed tests are based on serious power and cost, yet desks cant really move. The goal here is indeed to connect each computer with a single TB3 cable directly to the TS-453BT3. I'll have to sit on this decision. Thank you for your good advice.

    Thunderbolt 3

In breaking through the slow ethernet barrier, I see the biggest drawback to TB3 is the 6ft cord length. Right? Yes, one can daisy chain, but more $$ and franky cumbersome. TB2 is available in longer lengths, but half speed. With 10GBe, I hear the sound of crickets in in ports. As a non-tech...

    Thunderbolt 3

Hopefully I'm mistaken, but here is the link and text I was referring too. https://www.qnap.com/solution/thunderbolt3-nas/en-us/ "Note: 1. Directly connecting a QNAP Thunderbolt 3 NAS to a computer establishes a peer-to-peer (P2P) network and enables 20GbE connectivity."

    Thunderbolt 3

QNAP's webpage says that speed drops by half if directly connected to NAS. Why is this and how can I maximize Thunderbolt 3 speed? Considering direct connect between TS-453BT3 and Microsoft laptops. Thank you.

    QNAP TS-251B + Samsung 860PRO SSD 4TB

Thanks. So I'm gathering the risk of a unrecoverable hard drive failure is significant enough to warrant a relatively small inrease in money for 3× bays for RAID 5. I do like the QNAP 332x for expandable RAM and SSD cache option even though the Asustor AS4002T seems generally faster out of the box.

    QNAP TS-251B + Samsung 860PRO SSD 4TB

Thank you. I'm curious why a 3+ bay NAS is preferable to 2 for SSD. I don't think I need more than 8-10TB or storage. I'm looking for a small, fast, yet dependable NAS. Any additional insight is much appreciated. Ryan

    QNAP TS-251B + Samsung 860PRO SSD 4TB

Hello, I'm looking for advice for the build in the subject line. I'm a landscape architect starting my own small office. It will be two people at first, then hopefully 1-2 more. We will run Adobe Suite, AutoCAD and other 3D modeling software. We will be copying and saving 1 GB files with several...
