    ASUS Makes AiMesh Official

Tim, thank you for the clarification on how the roaming works. For what it's worth, I'd been interested to see how successful roaming works on cell phone wifi-calling for others. So far I've lost a couple calls when moving from one location to the other...but not enough examples to know for...

Open Mesh A40 & A60 Access Points Reviewed

Nice review and info. I've used Open Mesh in a school environment for years and have been quite please. As Ryan mentioned above, we have some of the 10 year old OM2P (32 meg version) that are still working and supported. The newer A60's we put in new classrooms/hallways work much better for a...

    ASUS Makes AiMesh Official

Mesh update: I'm hardwired for the mesh node and get full speeds when connected to the node (155 down, 170 up on fios). When I log into the main router, click on aiMesh, click on the node, then click "more config" it seems to show the mesh is wireless. Under connection priority, it's set to...

RT-AC68U QoS Bandwidth Limiter Not Working

Same problem here. At a vacation home we have 12 down and 2 up. I'm trying to get the Roku TV to stop grabbing all the bandwidth when watching anything in HD...and bandwidth limiter doesn't seem to work. I've set it up for 6 down and 1 up, and still see it pulling all 12 quite often. Using the...

    Plume "Pod" WiFi Ships

Just got 6 of them delivered to Florida. Tim, when it's really cold and snowy in the north, you should come to Tampa and test these things :) Is there anything you want me to test briefly? I have 150/150 fiber service which makes it nice to test throughput. Sean

Are there AP's that will function with 100+ clients?

Helping a church consider a wireless system upgrade. They were using a mesh wireless system to cover their auditorium that seats 1,000 people, then moved to using four Engenius AP's. Neither solution has held up well when any of the ap's get more than about 50 people online at once. In total...

RT-N56U stable for a small biz?

there's a small business that I'm helping set up a new router. They are fed by Fios (75/35 ish speed). Currently using a dlink dir-655, but having to reset it every couple days. It starts to slow down or lock up for some reason. I use the Asus RT-N56U in my home setup and it's been rock...

    Wireless between two houses

I would try a repeater on the wall closest to the other house and see if it will pull a signal. Even if it is a low signal, it might be enough to get 5 meg speed, and then it would rebroadcast it to the other house. The Asus wl-330 has worked well for me. Sean

Dir-655 still a great choice? What else to look at?

I have about 10 dlink dir-655's installed at various locations. I also run them in my house and business. So far have been pleased with their uptime, lack of needing a reboot, etc. One location is a school. The dir-655 is the first stop after the cable modem, serves up DHCP for about 40...

Synology DS209 or Asus Home Server TS Mini?

I've narrowed down my search for a new NAS to: The Synology DS209 ($286, no disks) or Asus Home Server TS Mini ($270, with 500 gig) I've used an older synology and have been happy. It's time to get faster speeds on my network. I've helped set up various NAS's for others...but have never...

    small office network

Hi Mike There is a NAS connected, no great performer, and they don't hit it with any databases or other high transaction software. They use it to share documents, files, etc. Many users are hard wired, many teachers also use wifi on laptops if they're going room to room. They have 4 wireless...

setting up wi-fi over 5 story apartment bldg

have you seen this? http://www.open-mesh.com/store/ I think it will allow you to see usage and remotely manage. Anyone have much experience? I've seen it used at a couple businesses and a housing development, but have never set up a large system with it. Sean

Repeater Bridge Discussion - Who Makes Them?

quick note to say I've played around with dd-wrt and some other routers that have repeater function with varying success. The product that I really love when trying to extend wireless range when adding an AP through cat 5 isn't possible is the asus wl-330ge. It's <$50 and I've found it to...

    small office network

Hi Mike I wanted to share that I recently moved a k-8 school over to google apps (free education edition) instead of having a server in house. They have 20-30 users. The reduction in tech support needs just for email and related issues has been great. They reduced their support budget by...

D-Link DIR-825 Xtreme N Dual Band Gigabit Router: Second Time's the Charm?

if it helps anyone, I found the dir-825 h/w B1 (firmware 2.02na) at costco for $109 today. Pretty nice price. I bought one to consider updating my dir-655 and get better streaming with N on 5.0. We'll see how it works soon. Anyone else comment on how it compares to the dir-655 for g and n...
