Why does my crimp tool not work for shielded RJ45 connector?

LOL! I actually watched this video last night to see if I was doing something wrong. I've made CAT5 cables before but these connectors were given to me by a contractor. They are different from the ones that are readily available. I just went to Fry's Electronics and bought some more shielded...

Why does my crimp tool not work for shielded RJ45 connector?

I'm trying to run some shielded CAT5e cable from a roll through some walls and cap them. I know this is usually terminated at a punch down, but I'm using a HDMI over CAT5e/CAT6 Tx/Rx system that is demanding the solid and shielded connection in order to work, pre-made, braided patch cable. I...

Need advise on using powerline adapter with 2 routers

Oh okay. So, I don't need to worry about disabling NAT on the 2nd router with this setup? If not, I'll just flash the stock firmware back in the 2nd router and go with that. Eventually someone else will have to administer this small network and I'd like to go with the stock firmware if possible...

Need advise on using powerline adapter with 2 routers

So, you're saying the downside of this setup is that I cannot administer the networks from one router - have to be connected to each network while configuring? I'll have to weigh this against having just one big network and having the 2nd router as a wireless access point. I thought it might be...

Need advise on using powerline adapter with 2 routers

Thanx for the advice. I'm going to set up my home network with the 2nd router as the AP. But, One more thing - what if I want to have two separate networks and have two routers to do this? Can I just have a main router connected to the gateway and the 2nd router connected at it's WAN port to the...

Need advise on using powerline adapter with 2 routers

I know you're not supposed to have two DHCP routers on a network but I just left it like that because I could not get the second router configured as an access point. Currently I have this stupid U-Verse router and it does not reach to my basement. So I connected a Netgear Powerline Network...

Need advice for wireless router for about 10-15 light users

Thanx. Set up the routers and they are working fine so far with no speed loss. I learned the WNDR3700v4 is much improved with a different processor compared to my v1. I got full full signal over 100ft from the router through walls. Hope it continues to perform well.

Need advice for wireless router for about 10-15 light users

90 views, 2 days, and not a single reply. Wow! I must be doing something wrong. After doing research, I realize that a real business solution would require a separate business router (nonwireless) and one or two wireless access points to handle many users. We may do this in the future, but for...

Need advice for wireless router for about 10-15 light users

I've been tasked with setting up a network for an auditorium. I've been searching for a business class router because I assume they are more robust than the consumer class stuff, but the prices are a bit out of budget for the serious stuff. All I really need is something reliable that can handle...
