I ran across this on Slashdot, where there's an FCC docket out there that pro-ports to prevent the use of custom firmware on a router on the 5GHz channel.

Looks like when it's time to upgrade routers sometime by the end of this year/early 2016, I should do the double-model upgrade like I did when I went from the RT-N66U to the AC-68U. I'll switch to the AC3200 as the main router and use my AC68U as my AP.
ActionTec does:

I've been using one for a couple of months now and so far, it's not had any issues. $80 on Amazon:

MoCA isn't likely to push anything beyond 100Mbps in rare cases, though it's one less...
You're also mentioned in the most recent firmware on the RT-N56U:

SDK 6.1 or 7? Let's hope it does make some difference on 2.4GHz performance.
If I'm running the SKD5 version of .374.32 and wanted to go to the SDK5 version of .374.35, would it make sense to do the factory reset before and after upgrading or just for the SDK6 version?
"However, this driver currently seems to suffer from a reduced signal strength and range."
Are there any quantifiable numbers to compare the SDK6 version vs the SDK5.1 version?
Just to confirm, if I'm running the non-SDK6 version of 3.0.0.4.374.32 and I would upgrade to 3.0.0.4.374.33 when it's released, I should do a factory reset / clear NVRAM before doing the upgrade due to the SDK5.1 driver?
When I did my upgrade to .32, I didn't see that the SDK6 version of it...
So, since I just made the change from .270.26b to .374.32, with the factory reset before the FW upgrade, I shouldn't have to make another factory reset before going to any other version as long as we don't jump major version numbers?
Since you're now using the SDK6 wireless driver in .374.32...
