Router is either crashing or wifi is cutting out

I am currently running the latest version of merlins firmware on my RT-AX68U and RT-AC86U operating in a wired mesh setup. I was getting a single disconnect once a day where I had to log into the main router and reconnect the mesh node. Fixing this issue required me to disable STP which isn't...

AX86U - what to use as mesh node

My setup is using RT-AX68U (main router) connected using Ethernet backhaul to RT-AC86U (mesh node) and everything is working really well. Most people in this forum probably see the RT-AX86U as the best router Asus has released, so if you can afford another one then get that, if not, then the...

    Check for External IP

Sounds like you can see your public IP, but the issue is that your ISP's router will block remote access, so without any access to the ISP router and if the ISP is unwilling to do anything, then I do not know what else you can do.

    Check for External IP

If you are unable to access the ISP supplied router and login using a cusadmin account, then contact the ISP and ask if either of these options are available: 1. Ask if they is willing to place their router in bridge mode (highly unlikely). 2. Ask if the router they manage has IP Passthrough...

File transfer capability of RT-AX86U between dual HDDs, both plugged in USB 3.0 ports ?

I also ran into issues when performing file transfers between USB connected drives on my RT-AC68U. My setup has 7 USB drives connected to a powered USB hub that plugs into the USB 3.0 port. Interesting thing to note is that when using firmware 3.0.0.4.384.45717, these type of file transfers...

Measuring wireless backhaul performance on XT8

I think your results look really good. Please keep in mind that the Ethernet Backhaul is maintaining your AiMesh setup, and any data sent by a device connected to your mesh node would also go over the Ethernet Backhaul, so with that overhead in mind, the 805 Mbps obtained during your testing...

Measuring wireless backhaul performance on XT8

iPerf3 is really good and if you really want to know how the wireless backhaul is performing you should test in both directions. For even better results, I would physically connect the devices used for the iPerf3 test to determine the maximum performance of the backhaul and rule out any...

    ASUS RT-AC86U USB capability

I have zero issues with sharing 7 USB drives on my RT-AC86U. All of the issues I observed with my setup were resolved by physically connecting my two routers (RT-AX68U <-> RT-AC86U) and enabling Ethernet backhaul. My RT-AC86U has 512MB of memory, but I have never noticed the issues that you...

    ASUS RT-AC86U USB capability

I use the APANAGE 11-Port USB 3.0 Hub with 7 USB drives connected to the USB 3.0 port on my RT-AC86U and it works well. Connecting two drives with a USB hub should work without issue.

Chaining in mesh system both AX and AC routers/nodes

I do not have any experience with Asus routers made for other regions, all of the Asus products I have ever owned were made for the Canadian market. When you configure your routers in AiMesh mode, you only configure from the main router. On my RT-AX68U I enable under wireless settings the...

Chaining in mesh system both AX and AC routers/nodes

Strange, here in Ontario Cananda the price of the RT-AC86U is actually higher in comparison to the RT-AX68U. I think you should be just fine with the RT-AC86U, I use it as a mesh node and it use to be my main router for a few years.

Chaining in mesh system both AX and AC routers/nodes

Currently I am using RT-AX68U as my main router and the RT-AC86U as a mesh node. I ran into my own connectivity issues, but was able to overcome these by connecting both routers together with a Cat7 cable and enabling the Ethernet backhaul feature. I do not think that these connectivity issues...
