[HELP] Properly backing up a QNAP TS-639

Is it not possible to Rsync from a Qnap NAS to windows server? Isn't it just a matter of setting up shares correctly?

[HELP] Properly backing up a QNAP TS-639

I backup my 509 to another 509 using the Replicator feature (Rsync) and it does do incremental.

    How to backup ts-509p

If you are considering backing up your data to a friends house you may want to consider this: http://www4.crashplan.com/consumer/index.html I've used it in the past and it has some nice features, including the ability to filter files you want to backup using regular expressions. If your friend...

    How to backup ts-509p

I'm doing the exact same thing. Except, in a moment of clarity while having coffee one morning, I realized that I didn't really need either of the 509's running RAID 5. Since I am backing-up the main NAS every night to my "mirror" NAS, I didn't need the redundancy that RAID 5 offers. Also, since...

Pulling ahead of the RAID 5 Pack: QNAP TS-509 Pro Reviewed

The 509 Pro does have online expansion. I have not tried this feature out yet, but from what others over on the QNAP forum have said, it takes forever and a day to bring the new drive(s) online. Like a week or so to add a 1TB drive to a 3 TB array. Yikes. I will likely be adding a couple of 2...

    QNAP TS509 benchmarks

Thanks Dennis, I'm not too concerned with my results as I'm just using my NAS as a media center file server so throughput isn't that much of a concern. I was just curious to see how my results compared to others. It looks like having a fast RAID system on the host machine makes a big difference.

    QNAP TS509 benchmarks

Dennis, what do you think is causing the discrepancy between the benchmark scores and what you are seeing in real file copy operations? -Dave

    QNAP TS509 benchmarks

Dennis, thanks for the posting your numbers. It looks like they did away with a number of the tests in the latest version. I guess there was too much redundancy b/w the backup/restore and the file copy tests. I'm not worrying too much about the numbers as I am using the NAS solely as a media...

    QNAP TS509 benchmarks

I benchmarked my TS509 Pro using the Intel NAS Performance Toolkit. My Setup NAS: TS509 Pro, 3 WD Green 1TB in Raid 5, 2.0.3 Build 1016T firmware. Computer: Intel DX48BT2 mobo with 4GB, XP Pro SP3, WD Raptor 150GB Network: CAT6, Netgear GS724T ProSafe Gigabit Switch I have to say I'm a little...

QNAP TS509 Beta Code = New Features

Dennis, have you tried benchmarking with the Intel NAS Performance Toolkit? It would be interesting to see how various switch/network setups benchmark using a standardized test. I'm going to try this this weekend. However, the last time I flashed a new firmware on my 509 I lost the array....

    Upgrading server

SBS 2008 will out in the next couple of months. Is there a reason you are moving to 2003? If you are in dire need of new server *now*, be sure and get 2003 with software assurance so you can upgrade to 2008 at a future date for free. Also, make sure your hardware is 64-bit as 2008 won't run on...

    TS509, Link Aggregation, 3COM 2916 = good

Good news. I just finished formatting the drives and error checking on both devices. Time for some firmware goodness :)

    TS509, Link Aggregation, 3COM 2916 = good

I'm glad to hear the remote replication is working as well as it is. That will be the main function of my two Qnap's. Since I haven't received mine yet I am not familiar with the options for the replication feature, but I am guessing you can't use regular expressions. I need to backup a folder...

Good stuff, thanks! I went ahead and ordered two, can't wait to try them out. - Dave

    TS509, Link Aggregation, 3COM 2916 = good

Dennis, thanks for the info. I’m glad to hear it worked as well as it did. I assume you are using the built-in Remote Replication feature and not running Rsync on its own? Did you notice a difference in transfer speed when SSH was enabled? Any problems with the WD Green drives (I am looking at...
