    Asus RT-AC56U worth reviving?

However, I'm still curious about the separate SSIDs for 2G and 5G bands. I'm used to my Unifi USG3P being able to use a single SSID and prefer 5G which I find works quite well for automatic band switching. I'd forgotten the AC56U separated the bands with different SSIDs. Can I not use a single...

    Asus RT-AC56U worth reviving?

I loaded the Asus FW from Nov 2019 (3.0.0.438.51641) and all seems well. I figure that should have the latest fixes. But now you have me curious about the AC68U. I'll have to see how it differs from the 56U. Might be worth getting if it continues to get updates. On 2nd thought, for $130, I...

    Asus RT-AC56U worth reviving?

Quick question about the AC56U. It is dual band, but in setup, it offers separate SSIDs for the dual bands. Does the AC56U not offer the ability to automatically switch between bands? IE, as you approach your house, you connect to the longer ranging 2G band, but once inside and in a strong...

    Asus RT-AC56U worth reviving?

I see you posted this as I was working on my post about the same topic. Perhaps I need to install the Asus version since it's the most recent.

    Asus RT-AC56U worth reviving?

I see. I just went to the Asus site for the AC56U and found Asus released FW 3.0.0.1.382.51641 on 2019/11/05. I assume that is Nov 5, 2019 and not May 11, 2019. In either case, that would be a later release than either Merlin or John's Fork. Correct?

    Asus RT-AC56U worth reviving?

What would be the negative of leaving 384.6 on it?

    Asus RT-AC56U worth reviving?

And is post #4 a good general guideline for settings for any Merlin-boosted Asus router? https://www.snbforums.com/threads/best-setup-for-the-asus-rt-ac68u-actualized-to-2019.55684/

    Asus RT-AC56U worth reviving?

Hmm. I'm not familiar with John's fork. I'll have to check into that. I just put 384.6 on it. But no problem to change that!

    Asus RT-AC56U worth reviving?

I have an old AC56U I retired several years ago and replaced with a Ubiquiti system. It was running a version of Merlin... 380.62. (edited to correct the version) I have a daughter that just moved into an apartment and needs a decent router. Would it be worth reviving the AC56U and putting the...

    Wi-Fi System Roundup

Keep in mind that if you're blasting full power with multiple APs, your clients may have roaming issues since the signal strength may never drop low enough to cause the client to search for another, stronger AP. It can be a tricky balance and you may see differences between iOS and Android...

2x2 AC Access Point Roundup - Part 2

That's interesting and I didn't realize that about the d/l bias. OTOH, I've observed my iPad Pro (2016) seems to have an upload bias and typically tests faster in uploads than downloads. Go figure.

Here's the thread on the new version of the CK I was looking for: https://community.ubnt.com/t5/UniFi-Wireless/New-cloud-Key-is-fast-and-has-lots-of-storage/m-p/2287654#M285754

Lol. I had to go back and look because I know I saw the 160 MHz option when I setup my AC-HD the other day. But it appears the update took that option away!

Here's the data sheet for the v2: https://dl.ubnt.com/datasheets/unifi/UniFi_Cloud_Key_DS.pdf I've seen a post recently about it somewhere, but don't recall where at the moment. I'll update if I stumble across it. I'm not concerned about the power loss issue. I'll just put it on my UPS. If I...

Ubiquiti AC Pro and AC Lite Access Points Reviewed

I should update this since early on I was asking about using the UniFi gear. I had a brief fling with Orbi (rbr50 and 2x rbs50) over Christmas break. I ran them in wired backhaul mode, which negated the extra wireless backhaul channel Orbi provides. It worked very well for my 2 story 2400sf...
