Looking for feedback: PPPoE and poor WAN performance

Hi Merlin, Glad to see youre working in this issue that afflicts, by what i know until now, only specific ASUS routers using PPPoE connections. In a rough estimate, there should be at least 10 people only in this Forum, including me, that have reported this issue in recent times. In my...

Stucked at 170mbps on a 500mbps WAN connection

Hi unchiu, Is your ISP connection a PPPoE one? If so, the problem probably is a firmware bug. In AC66U PPPoE connections, only with fw 3.0.0.4.354 or earlier, the WAN/LAN bandwidth is not capped to 140 Mbps.

RT-AC66U - Slow WAN to LAN

OK stephn and kfele, glad to see everything works the way it should. I think that ASUS should not have removed some of earlier fw of their sites, because only with these fw (and Merlin derivatives, as stephn noted) we can obtain WAN/LAN throughput above ~ 140 Mbps in PPPoE connections...

RT-AC66U - Slow WAN to LAN

No, it’s not necessary a computer to handle 500 Mbps/PPPoE ; it’s necessary only a future good firmware, or an old firmware: - RT-AC66U with 3.0.0.4.354 FW

    RT-AC66U WAN-LAN limit

See http://forums.smallnetbuilder.com/showthread.php?t=12973 ASUS does not check its FW with anything higher than 150 Mbps? It's a shame a pricey router can not manage 200 Mbps+ WAN/LAN.

RT-AC66U - Slow WAN to LAN

At risk of being repetitive, i’m sure that the issue of slow WAN to LAN downloads is a software problem and not a hardware related one. My config is an FTTH PPPoE ISP provider with 200Mbs down and 60 upload speeds, and a CAT6 wired connection between ONT / router (ASUS 66U; N56U or Cisco...

RT-AC66U - Slow WAN to LAN

We must do the firmware update (with 3.0.0.4.354) taking a few cautions: - first do a restore to the factory defaults. - without any connection to the router's WAN port, flash the firmware. - after flash do not reset the router. Without any of these mesures, there is not any improvement...

RT-AC66U - Slow WAN to LAN

Same problem here. My ISP is 200/60 Mbps. I'm almost sure it's FW because with anyone of new ASUS FW 3.0.0.4.372; ...374.130; and ...374.726 there is download restricted bandwidth. Only with 3.0.0.354 and older FW i can obtain 200 Mbps downloads.

    ASUS RT-AC66R Firmware Version 3.0.0.4.374.726

Another firmware that not fixes the restricted download bandwidth: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/547/956h.png/ With 3.0.0.4.354 firmware: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/513/u5br.png/ Interestingly, with HW accelerator disabled, download bandwidth goes up.

    Strange Wan slowdown RT-AC66U

I've had the same download issue, as mencioned in http://forums.smallnetbuilder.com/showthread.php?t=11999 I think AC66U has great hardware, but crap soft. The ping time to host 192.168.1.1 varies from 1 ms to 10 ms what is unacceptable, since any cheap router has < 1ms ping.

    RT AC66U WAN/LAN speed - IPTV config

Thanks for replying. Yes, 150 Mb/s is about what the router gives as download with old 3.0.0.4.260/3.0.0.4.270 FWs, even with hardware acceleration enabled (I did not enable QoS or something else that i think could have disabled hardware acceleration). Even with 3.0.0.4.354 FW and with...

    RT AC66U WAN/LAN speed - IPTV config

Hi all, I’m a noob so if my questions were already answered, please forgive me. 1. My internet service is 200/60 Mb/s and with my previous router (ASUS RT N56U) i did not have any difficulty to obtain it via cables between modem/router/computer LAN port (all cables cat 6). My new AC66U...
