Don't forget Cloudflare has 1.1.1.2 for malware filtering, or 1.1.1.3 for malware+adult site filtering. It's what I would use if I wasn't using using nextdns probably, but I prefer the extra control, ad blocking, and logging.
I use nextdns, it doesn't take much headspace to use and it blocks ads, malware that relies on DNS, and increases privacy from my ISP as its DNS-over-HTTP or TLS depending on the platform. There's enough gains there to justify a couple of minutes to set it up on a new device.
Yeah I did say it broke a lot of stuff :). That Mac address isn't just for WDS, it's just that switching to WDS only effectively disables whatever else was using that address. So maybe it is AiMesh after all...
I replied to that question above :)
Since then I've realised the mac address in question is actually the base Mac address of the 2.4 and 5 Ghz interfaces, it's not just a specific WDS address. Anyway I don't think I've actually helped because I don't have a solution that makes it go away that...
Throughput tests would start out well but then collapse to about 1/4 of normal. Really weird traffic patterns while sniffing with wireshark. It did something weird switching to channel 36 even though I had it hard set to 100, and there were weird things I didn't have time to double check so...
I have seen the same thing both on tuf-be3600 and rt-be86u on the latest Asus firmware as of the date of this post. I sort of have an answer.
Tl;dr - it’s WDS, not aimesh or wpa3 etc.
What I see is beacons being broadcast on both 2.4ghz and 5ghz with an empty SSID (“hidden” SSID), with a...
Yeah I guess that’s what I’m pointing out. The reality doesn’t match the marketing.
In this case it’s not the routers fault or choice though - the router keeps offering twt but the phone doesn’t take it up on the offer.
A lot of claims made about wi-fi 6 include all battery powered devices and specifically improving battery life for phones and tablets, not just IOT.
But there seems to be a big difference between what is advertised and what vendors actually implement. I thought twt was supposed to be mandatory...
Target wake time was one of the headline features of Wi-Fi 6, and there were plenty of stories about how it would improve battery life, including for iPhones.
I've been watching my iPhone and iPad connect to my wifi with Wireshark and they do NOT request (or use) target wake time when they...
Since disabling smart connect by having my main ssid on 5ghz only, it’s been rock solid. That’s 36 hours now fwiw. System log is very, very quiet apart from devices going out and then coming home.
Very non-scientific response here, but I got a new rt-be86u yesterday. First thing I did was upgrade it to the latest release *prior* to 3.0.0.6.102_39260 dated from November from memory, as _39260 wasn't out yet (missed by hours). I had an issue where the 2.4ghz network stopped working with...
I had exactly the same thing on my tuf-be3600... Its most recent firmware upgrade from last week also failed to fix it, including a factory reset. In my post about the issue, my even bigger concern was that (IME) the router also dropped all the inbound firewall rules, thus allowing anything...
I raised a support call with ASUS support who said to upgrade to the latest version and factory reset. Except it's already on the latest version - the one they told me to go to is only for h/w version 2, and this router is hw version 1A (manufactured in 2025 though!). They don't seem to have...
