Cat 6a unshielded vs cat 6 shielded or other for Future 10G network

I have had cat 6, unshielded cables installed in our old home about a year ago. All lines have full gigabit speed up and down. But lately I got enough gears to allow me to start taking a little advantage of 10G network. The furthest distant cable has one way 10G but other way only over 1G speed...

    Slow Speeds on Cisco WAP581

I don’t have Cisco but for UniFi setup, default channel bandwidth is 40MHz on 5G band hence essentially halve the throughput to my previous router. Once I changed the channel width, I got appropriate/expected speed. I wonder if Cisco has the same default setting. Also does the system have smart...

News Game On for Wi-Fi 6E

I didn’t even know apple devices did not support MU-MIMO. @thiggins Yes. It makes sense especially if my home ecosystem is not supporting. I think 3D TV analogy makes perfect sense. @Vexira Tech is my hobby so by then I’d be on board with the latest and greatest Wifi 8!

News Game On for Wi-Fi 6E

Can someone explain MU-MIMO in these situation? I tested myself using wave 2 AP and iPerf across iPhone to iPad a few days ago. Each device alone got around 500-600 but across two each gets 200-300 range so exactly the same as the case being discussed here. I thought MU-MIMO allows multiple...

    Mesh versus router/extender

Do you have wired infracture? If so, I second @coxhaus. If you have not dig into AP based systems yet, there are many other venders you have not come across yet eg Aruba, Aruba Instant, Cisco, Cisco Meraki, UniFi. I personally now use UniFi which has outdoor AP. It’s not the cheapest certainly...

The quest for 500/500 over wifi

You don't need 160MHz channel width nor Wi-Fi 6 to get up to 500 Mbps single device performance. The key element is Wi-Fi system efficiency and PHY. Once you have 2x2 MIMO client @ 80 MHz channel width, your R7800 should be able to make 866 MHz PHY. Not only signal strength but noise is...

NAS vs directly plugin drive to router.

I used to had very similar setup. R7000 with WD 1TB MyBook. I tried to stream stored music, video, and transfer files to my tablets and phones. The issue was it crushed occasionally. The worst part for me was when the system crushed, the entire data on my WD 1TB became collapsed and inaccessible...

Free New Windows Wi-Fi Connection App from MetaGeek

I wished they made Mac version, or even better is iOS version.

Which Wifi mesh to buy 'this year'

That does look good, but I have a total collector mentality.... In fact, I have had Netgear multi gig switch but my collector mentality had me switch to UniFi switch, far more expensive, less 10G ports, Multi-gig support.

Which Wifi mesh to buy 'this year'

If I had known, when I had my guy install Ethenet cables in my home I should have gone with Cat 6a! His installation fee was the same regardless though he tried to recommend 5e. I debated but I ended up with Cat 6 as I worried I could have an issue with ungrounded cable result in poorer...

Which Wifi mesh to buy 'this year'

Isn't Cat 6a only relevant after 50m? I.e. unless you have a huge house, Cat 6 is good enough? Especially for proper 6A I thought we need to ground Cat cable on both end.

Which Wifi mesh to buy 'this year'

My limited educated guess is, Wi-Fi 6 products on other manufacture became available early 2019 (may be even earlier) and UniFi just have announced them but not yet public i.e. 18 monts to 2 years delay. So I highly doubt you'd see any Wi-Fi 6E compatible AP from UniFi product line in 2021...

Which Wifi mesh to buy 'this year'

When I purchased my UniFi recently (about a month+ ago), there wasn't Wi-Fi 6 AP at all but I would have still purchased it because I cannot wait. Beside, my personal home speed test (I had Wi-Fi 6 before) only time WI-Fi 6 beat UniFi was sitting right next to router. But due to better...

    I'm giving up with Asus

I for one departed from my Wifi 6 Aimesh setup I had it for a whole year. It was decent but not the best due to lack of stability. I think Aimesh is great concept and I was truly excited when I first saw it but way too many hardware combination and implementation for any company to ensure full...

Mesh Solution with working Guest Network

For me AiMesh worked decently over a year but it was not a stable enough and guest network always limited to router unit only, and as I posted above speed tests result were inferior to UniFi system except Wi-Fi 6 client at next to router Unit. But using individual AP mode could have been...
