PoE does not work over self-built CAT5E cable

OK, found the issue and have to admit it was an operator error after all. I did not realize that only four of the eight ports of the Unifi Lite 8 PoE switch have PoE. When testing with a normal patch cable I used a different port than when testing with my self-installed cable, which is the...

PoE does not work over self-built CAT5E cable

One more thing. So I read up a bit now on Gigabit Ethernet and PoE. From what I understand, Gigabit Ethernet uses all eight wires of the CAT5E cable. So if Gigabit Ethernet is working, all wires seem to be connected correctly. Now I am wondering again, why would PoE then not work? Could it be...

PoE does not work over self-built CAT5E cable

Thanks! The cable I installed is a patch cable, not solid wire. So it should work well with the crimped connectors. But anyway, I ordered a tester to check this further, and along with it some connectors similar to the ones you linked. Will report back on the results.

PoE does not work over self-built CAT5E cable

Yes, the cable has 568B printed on it, and I did the ends according to T-568B. What do you mean exactly by "bad connector"? To be honest, I do not know really how PoE works, what could be wrong with the connector that would make PoE not work while Gigabit network connectivity works?

PoE does not work over self-built CAT5E cable

Hi, In my house I have just installed a new CAT5E cable (F/UTP) and crimped my own RJ45 connectors (CAT6 STP) on it. Gigabit network connectivity works fine, but for some reason PoE does not. I am trying to power an Unifi Flex Mini switch from an Unifi Lite 8 PoE switch. When I connect the two...

Linksys LRT214: How to use SSL certificate?

Hi, The Linksys LRT214 has a menu option SSL Certificate, under Configuration, System Management. The mediocre manual only states the obvious for each of the configuration points there, without saying what the SSL certificate is actually used for. Does someone know what this SSL Certificate is...

Which wireless access points with clustering for small network?

Did now a few tests with the UniFi setup, with a Cloud Key Gen2, a USW-FLEX-MINI switch and two UAP-AC-LR access points. Compared to Linksys it feels like a different, much more advanced world. In terms of functionality, even the cheaper UniFi access points offer more, namely mesh...

Which wireless access points with clustering for small network?

Hi Trip, Thanks again for the additional information. I now also checked out EnGenius and TP-Link Omada. I really like the offering of EnGenius, but they seem to be a notch too expensive for our budget. Omada is attractively priced, but their product portfolio is not as extensive. At the moment...

Which wireless access points with clustering for small network?

After checking out the UniFi devices a bit I like them and their overall offerings. They are a bit cheaper than Linksys and their controller appliance should therefore also fit into our budget. Is there a specific reason why you are mentioning the Gen2 controller? They still sell the Gen1, which...

Which wireless access points with clustering for small network?

Hi Trip, Great overview, thanks for taking the time to reply in such detail! Do you maybe have an insight regarding the Ciscos and if their local web admin GUI is reachable from wired connections? I will look into these options and came back in case of further questions! Regarding...

Which wireless access points with clustering for small network?

Have been looking at the Cisco CBW 140AC/240AC, there seems to be some good deals available on them at the moment, bringing even the 240AC into our price range. It seems their clustering function would fullfill our needs. One thing that bothered me is an Amazon review that says the Web UI of the...

Which wireless access points with clustering for small network?

Hi, I am looking for a recommendation for wireless access points. I want to install 6-10 devices and manage them centrally as a cluster. Our requirements are simple, we want one SSID with WPA2 Personal security. Of course support of more complex configurations may be a plus for the future...
