Pfsense/opnsense box with AX88U Merlin firmware

Don't know. - I only have the 1 AP - AX88u with multiple VLANs. Here's the guide that I used to configure it. Just note that if you're using the WAN port as trunk, - you won't be able to ssh or access the config page from WAN port once configured. You'll have to be on the main wifi or one of...

Pfsense/opnsense box with AX88U Merlin firmware

There are some guides on how to configure the AX88U with multiple VLANs - can do up to 7 VLANs on Wifi, or perhaps 8. I'm currently running 6 VLANs with the AX88U set up as an AP. Opnsense / pfsense are excellent - and will require a fair bit of time of tinkering. Initial configuration may...

    RT-AX88U_3004_388.7_0

So far so good since doing the hard-reset on the 388.700. All is working fine. I have the following configuration and (point that I need to remember) Unit is configured as an AP only - with the trunk cable going to the WAN port. I have 5 - VLANs coming in on the WAN port (eth0), and then...

    RT-AX88U_3004_388.7_0

Version 3004_388.6_2 is stable for me. At the moment though, I have upgraded to 3004_388.7_0 and did the hardware factory reset, then reconfigured everything from scratch. Will see how it goes. If it crashes in a couple of days, I'll just downgrade again, and wait for another update.

    RT-AX88U_3004_388.7_0

I had done a soft factory reset from within when I had installed it initially. But after reading a number of the comments on the other thread that it's working fine - with a reset. I've just upgraded it again back to 3004_388.7_0, and did a method 2 hard factory reset, and redid the...

    RT-AX88U_3004_388.7_0

Just downgraded to the previous firmware. Similar problems, - the wifi suddenly drops, or there's no traffic for a bit, - cannot ping the router, etc....- would have to turn off / turn on the router for it to work again....- the previous version was stable.

QNAP 4.4.1.1216, - hacked? Seeking opinions.

The issue was not a hack. It was the Qsirch and another utility by Qnap. As Qnap upgraded the OS, it introduced "better" search functionality, with AI - so that you can find what you're looking for faster with better results, - images and documents. So, when those services are enabled (cunningly...

QNAP 4.4.1.1216, - hacked? Seeking opinions.

@dosborne - many thanks. I thought more about what you'd said, and I think that you're right. After installing the most recent update, I hadn't logged into the system till the incident. In the messages that I was prompted - one had to do with data - privacy, and I recall agreeing to it. (i was...

QNAP 4.4.1.1216, - hacked? Seeking opinions.

@ColinTaylor , - perhaps - although I doubt - as I usually receive a push notification that a firmeware update is available - ready for installation; but that wasn't the case then. May be it was something carried over from the last update. @dosborne - that's comforting to know. @L&LD - thanks...

    Traffic analyzer - dig deeper

where are those tools? would they tell me the internal IP address of the traffic and perhaps the port? - I'm still learning about Merlin. - The downloaded traffic is Steam, I was setting up a gaming computer at the time, but didn't enable any outgoing streams from Steam. Many thanks Val

QNAP 4.4.1.1216, - hacked? Seeking opinions.

Hmmm, I'm going to be hopeful and run with perhaps no-one had gotten in - i just don't know. Perhaps, some fault or so in the QNAP OS that produced those messages of drives formatted and privacy. The QNAP mycloud service had always 2FA enabled since I signed up to it, and I've disabled it now...

QNAP 4.4.1.1216, - hacked? Seeking opinions.

Router ought to be secure. Running Merlin's 384.15 - with skynet installed - with custom and large ip-filters - and with diversion and dnsproxy. I don't have any IoT devices. All remote access & management into the network is disabled (no vpn or anything allowed inwards). The only service...
