Wired Router Recommendation For Symmetrical Gigabit WAN

Yup, flexibility of pfsense is attractive. Thanks for this device pointer, I'll check it out. My immediate plan is to use Asus Zenwifi XT8 2-pk I already have as main router and an ethernet connected node. This gives me very easy setup, and ~600Mbps QoS+Firewall+SomeAIProtection. I lose some...

Wired Router Recommendation For Symmetrical Gigabit WAN

Old PC has power draw, space, fan sound, heat in a closet/panel concerns, though flexible for sure. What do people think of Qotom brand mini pc like this one? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B076PJ4S2Z/?tag=snbforums-20

Wired Router Recommendation For Symmetrical Gigabit WAN

Thanks, looks like PFSense is a flexible choice with many packages. Configuration does seem more work than others for now. Pre-built boxes are expensive for kind of hardware they pack. And old desktop box will likely draw more power and take more space, so need to think/read more. Mind sharing...

Wired Router Recommendation For Symmetrical Gigabit WAN

Is it recommended to run some Anti Virus on the router (in addition to default firewall)? I see options for that in ASUS wifi routers but not in Edgerouter 4. What is the recommended/popular router AV choice that can deal with gigabit throughput?

Wired Router Recommendation For Symmetrical Gigabit WAN

I want a wired router to connect to symmetrical gigabit WAN. Requirements: - Easily get gigabit speeds both up/down with Firewall enabled. - Ideally Fan-less and wall mountable - Not too hard to setup (For example: Looking at Edge-Router ER-4 - seems doable in setup complexity) - Ideally, less...

Asus Zenwifi XT8 5GHz-2 Band DFS Channel Backhaul Behavior

Btw, where I am, 104 is DFS channel. Here, 149 is a good non-dfs 80Mhz channel.

Asus Zenwifi XT8 5GHz-2 Band DFS Channel Backhaul Behavior

Do consider hard reset both nodes, and setup from scratch at 80Mhz backhaul. Effort, but should confirm bad unit in your situation.

Asus Zenwifi XT8 5GHz-2 Band DFS Channel Backhaul Behavior

Have you confirmed no dfs/radar events? Want to pick a non-dfs 80MHz channel manually and see if that is stable? If you have an option to return/exchange the system, consider it.

Asus Zenwifi XT8 5GHz-2 Band DFS Channel Backhaul Behavior

As explained by JagoUK, I don't seem to have DFS/Radar issue in my area, hence enabled 160Mhz. Do verify that part in your case first. Keep in mind, my experience is, if you change anything in the config. Reboot all nodes of mesh. Forget and re-join wifi network. Otherwise, some devices get...

Asus Zenwifi XT8 5GHz-2 Band DFS Channel Backhaul Behavior

Ai Protection Yes. Used it historically on ASUS routers and never bothered me. QoS: Disabled (Mainly because I have fast enough WAN connection that it shouldn't matter).

Asus Zenwifi XT8 5GHz-2 Band DFS Channel Backhaul Behavior

All the best, do reboot all router, nodes and re-connect wifi clients (forget network, re-join). Every time I change any settings, Zenwifi system goes crazy. Hope you find a good configuration, then don't touch it :)
