Easiest way to wire a house with multiple APs, with a need for streaming video through a VPN

First question to ask, is where will the services come into the house? Where I live, we typically bring the services (power, cable, telephone, internet) into the basement, into a "utility" room. If you are the same, then I would recommend that you run at least one cat6 from each bedroom, two...

Optimal settings ASUS RT-AC5300 with Merlin 386.3.2

@Johan1974NL I have the same router...different VPN provider...those numbers mirror mine when the VPN is on fairly closely . My down speeds range from 20Mbps to 100Mbps with an average of about 40Mbps depending on the time of day and which server I connect to. With VPN off I get around 320Mbps...

Question/opinion on multiple routers, using as a switch...

I'd agree with TheLostSwede - this topology is wrong. It is difficult to say for sure without knowing what is filling those ports, but this seems like an odd way to connect all these devices. A good switch will improve your network, and allow you to test things/learn more about networking. Look...

Unable to reach VPN server in two-router setting

I was just referring to when the router is put in AP mode, a bunch of the menu items disappear. I really like the merlin firmware. Yes, the connections between the two routers are LAN to LAN ports. ip r returned the following: 10.16.0.0/24 dev tun22 proto kernel scope link src 10.16.0.1...

Unable to reach VPN server in two-router setting

Thanks, yes you are correct, the WAN IP is 10.168.2.11 in Router 2. I have opened the default port on 10.168.2.1 to the IP of router 2 (10.168.2.11), but it is all one subnet. I also for good measure put Router 2 in the DMZ of Router 1. There are a couple of other issues that might help...

Unable to reach VPN server in two-router setting

I think I have addressed both of those possibilities. My setup is as follows: Router 1 IP is 10.168.2.1 Router 2 IP is 10.168.2.11 In Router 2 Default Gateway is set as 10.168.2.1, WAN IP is set as 10.168.2.1 and DNS is set as 10.168.2.1 In Router 1 (the default gateway) I have the following...

Unable to reach VPN server in two-router setting

Did you ever get this to work? I am trying to do the exact same thing you describe. Everything works perfectly well if I am on the lan, but no connection to ovpn server on 2nd router if I am outside the lan.

    Remote Desktop

Thanks for the reply Yorgi. That does sort of make sense, but with the router outside of the VPN I thought this would work. I can connect to the router and drop the VPN connection using either the ISP IP or the ASUS DDNS name. Because I can do that, I would have thought the remote desktop...

    Remote Desktop

Hello I have what I hope is a simple problem. When I have client 1 connected to my VPN provider, I am NOT able to connect to my pc's from outside of the network using Windows Remote Desktop Connection. I have Redirect Internet Traffic set to Policy Rules, and the AC3100 outside of the VPN...

Direct client web traffic through VPN provider same router is connected to

Hello I have AC3100 with both OpenVPN router and client set up (that was fun). I can connect to my LAN (10.168.2.0/24) and I can access the web through the router as a OpenVPN server using my iphone. I am using the default subnet of 10.8.0.0 and connecting with TCP 443 port. The final piece...
