Release Asuswrt-Merlin 3004.388.5 is now available

For me it could also not find the release notes when trying to upgrade from 3004.388.4. The updated work fine now. If I understand correctly, the bug should be fixed and when doing the next upgrade to 388.6 I should be able to find the changelog? Besides... I am always checking your website for...

    VPN Server on port 53/443?

Yes this is exactly what I was thinking and how my webserver is battling spam and attacks... a simple tool to block/ban IPs based on some rules (e.g. getting spammed on a port). This would be a really really neat feature in Asus WRT Merlin @RMerlin :)

    VPN Server on port 53/443?

Thanks for your feedback. Uh good input! I believe I was able to send e-mails while connected to the hotels WLAN so this might be a good idea. I am also still looking for a way to make syncthing work in such scenarios. So I could try using OpenVPN on TCP 443 and Syncthing on TCP 993.

    VPN Server on port 53/443?

Well, connection established means that someone managed to exploit OpenVPN or cracked a VPN Users password. Both very unlikely?

    VPN Server on port 53/443?

I understand, I agree.. but there aren't any other solutions? Additionally, whats the impact of getting bombarded by a port scanner? Security wise it should not matter?

    VPN Server on port 53/443?

The hotel I have been was really strict. I couldn't even use DNSCrypt (which I don't know how it was blocked since that also uses the standard ports?).

    VPN Server on port 53/443?

I use the AiProtection features if that is what you are referring to for port 443? Or is that something else? I guess I would also need to switch to TCP instead of UDP for the OpenVPN server protocol? Are there any other ports like 53/443 that I could use? Actually in my coporate network the...

    VPN Server on port 53/443?

Is it okay (in terms of security and unexpected troubles / behaviour) to run my OpenVPN Server on port 53 or 443 to be able to access it even when being on a network (e.g. corporate) with a firewall that seems to block most other requests? For example I can browse the web but not access my VPN...

Port forwarding for client connected to OpenVPN server

It seems like I just can't get my laptop and smartphone to communicate through my companies local network. I am trying to sync these devices via syncthing on the local network. What I can do is to connect them to my syncthing installation on my home server. So I could sync both devices by using...

AX86U - Wireguard vs OpenVPN - Speed and phone battery related?

It is not an issue per se but more of a "how much more can I optimize it" since all of the devices that will use the VPN are on battery (smartphone, laptop). Thanks for you input!

AX86U - Wireguard vs OpenVPN - Speed and phone battery related?

Yes, as I said, my mean concern is battery life.

AX86U - Wireguard vs OpenVPN - Speed and phone battery related?

    From the link you posted: With HW Acceleration aes-256-gcm 160627.58k 489296.12k 826414.93k 997675.35k 1058919.77k 1064042.50k chacha20-poly1305 113844.03k 327796.01k 691147.18k 831848.45k 875301.55k 879613.27k Winner: AES (even at 256 instead of 128) Without HW...

AX86U - Wireguard vs OpenVPN - Speed and phone battery related?

@DocUmibozu @Tech9 so HW acceleration stays ON when using wireguard. Good to know! But why do you think that wireguard should be used instead of OpenVPN? Wireguard might be simpler (not an argument for me since I am fine with the "difficulty" of OpenVPN) Wireguard uses ChaCha but that does not...

AX86U - Wireguard vs OpenVPN - Speed and phone battery related?

I am currently running a OpenVPN server on my AX86U with 500/100 mbit/s FTTH fibre. I use the OpenVPN client on my Pixel 8 Pro and today started to wonder if I could optimize the battery usage on my phone e.g. by using AES-128 instead of AES-256 or doing any other changed to the OpenVPN server...

    OpenVPN Server limit bandwith/speed

Since we can run multiple OpenVPN server instances I wanted to create one with higher priority and one with lower priority. Basically the lower priority OpenVPN server should be limited in the maximum upload/download speed. Is that somehow possible within the OpenVPN server settings? Thanks!
