Release Asuswrt-Merlin 3004.388.10 is now available

Tried and failed upgrade the node with the released version. Even with unpair, WPS reset, re-pair procedure. Clients were not happy. Reverted back to beta 2, and all working again. I'll monitor the thread to see if there are similar issues/suggestions or if (more likely) this is PEBKAC. I do know my main router is NOT compliant with the new password rules. Try this next?
Okay, updated my main router password to meet the new password requirements and tried again to update the node. Followed the recommended steps: update firmware, disconnect node, reconnect node, reconfigure mesh related parameters on main router (GNP sharing and client binding for me). So far, clients are happy.

My AX86U PRO is still on 3004.388_4, however latest release on sourceforge is saying 3006.102.5, not 3004.388.10. What version did the ax86u pro split at so I can read/follow proper changelog? thanks

edit - did more reading
3004.388.9 (9-Apr-2025)
- NOTE: BCM4912 models such as the GT-AX6000 have now been migrated to the 3006 firmware series.
ax86u pro Broadcom BCM4912 @2.0 GHz Quad core
all good

Just a FYI re 3004 to 3006; it’s a big change from a Guest Network perspective and you MUST do a hard factory reset and reenter all your settings by hand.

And to go along with this, there are a number of addon scripts that do not work on the 3006.102.x firmware. So if you are using any addon scripts, make sure to check the addon subforum for the script discussion to see if there are any issues with running said addon script under 3006 firmware. For example YazFi is one such script that is not supported on 3006 firmware.

You can try what I did - https://www.snbforums.com/threads/asuswrt-merlin-3004-388-10-is-now-available.95831/post-971185
The app bombed on the Alpha and the Beta, and obviously with the release. I got it to work again under IOS 18.x and IOS 26.x on my iPhone. But I had to completely remove the app on the iPhone, and it's data and start from scratch with a fresh install of it from the App store and resetup the authentication. I didn't have to do a factory refresh either...

It works on my iPhone 14, just went it again now to make sure.
Your Mileage May Vary - But NOT Supported ;)
A quick update, Nope

It WAS working untill it wasn't. Couldn't ge the app to connect. No way no how. Also when it did work it drove a scribe crazy, and the overran the system log with all sorts of errors. Looked like a reboot bit no reboot, odd. App is gone for noww.

Everything appeared to be working for a few days when changing to HTTPS only, but this night everything went to the crapper again. Weirdly enough, it even persisted when I disabled the app and the HA integration. Really scratching my head here. Do the BE routers suffer the same issue?

What I mean by "went down the crapper" is that devices are randomly disconnected and reconnected, the network in general is very unstable and I get constant notifications that devices have lost the connection to the internet. Went back to 9_2 to see if it would help, but the logs are constantly chatting, changing channels for nodes, disconnecting and reconnecting devices and I have a slew of CFG80211-ERROR messages.

Did the opposite. I just switched to HTTP only, the logs quieted down, going to try the app again in a bit to see if the router continues flooding the log with all the nonsense it has been doing for the last few days.

That didn't work either, flooded with:
Oct 11 13:04:24 Router kernel: potentially unexpected fatal signal 11.
Oct 11 13:04:24 Router kernel: CPU: 2 PID: 22614 Comm: httpd Tainted: P O 4.1.51 #2

Before that, amongst the rest of the noise, that mimiced what yor normally see during a reboot (though there wasn't any)...
Oct 10 22:51:47 Router kernel: CPU: 0 PID: 17258 Comm: httpds Tainted: P O 4.1.51 #2
Oct 11 00:07:00 Router kernel: echo (15202): drop_caches: 3

People RMerlin does not support the Asus App. He has been painfully clear on this. You want the App to work go back to stock Asus firmware.
Yeah, we know, and the rest of the posts I've made reference that fact. But there's more going on here we've just not been able to nail it down.
But thanks again for stating it because we can never state it enough...

See a #126, a few above this:

"What I mean by "went down the crapper" is that devices are randomly disconnected and reconnected, the network in general is very unstable and I get constant notifications that devices have lost the connection to the internet. Went back to 9_2 to see if it would help, but the logs are constantly chatting, changing channels for nodes, disconnecting and reconnecting devices and I have a slew of CFG80211-ERROR messages."

Having it mess with a few of the addons as well, so far scribe, spdMerlin, ntpMerlin, still sifiting through the extensive flooded syslog for others...

See it starting with Beta2 at least the dates line up, ignored these as it they were a one off:
Oct 2 15:42:40 Router kernel: potentially unexpected fatal signal 11.
Oct 2 15:42:40 Router kernel: CPU: 3 PID: 1509 Comm: asd Tainted: P O 4.1.51 #2
Oct 3 15:12:31 Router kernel: potentially unexpected fatal signal 11.
Oct 3 15:12:31 Router kernel: CPU: 1 PID: 15560 Comm: asd Tainted: P O 4.1.51 #2

Then from the 4th on, after applying the the release, it starts to all goes south. Then on the 8th everything starts messing up, getting worse as it goes on, or as above, goes down the crapper.

Going to revert for now.
Deciding between Beta1(worked great and liked the introduced changes), Beta2(troublesome but managable) and 3004.388.9_2 (drastic, but solid), gotta review the changelogs and pick one.
On both the nodes (getting flooded from them as well) and router.
Hoping to avoid a full refresh and rebuild, again 🤷‍♂️

I updated my Rt-AX88U which is a wired node for my mesh setup. My RT-AX6000, main router, is on the latest Merlin release as well as the AX88u. Mesh is working perfectly without any hiccups. As for ASUS router app on my iPhone, it has always worked and is working well with both devices updated with latest Merlin releases. After 1 day post update, I powered both routers down and up to reset everything. After an hour all wireless devices found the closest node and no issues with hard wired devices on either router.
Keep up the good work.

This isn't just about the Asus App but also the integration with home assistant.
Yes. Exactly but I haven’t had a chance to dig deeper because I saw a few scripts for the log, have an issue as well when they use the, or leverage the webgui in any way.
Had to get on the road, so couldn’t look deeper. Since reverting to the beta1 the logs have been quiet.

Waiting a bit to try the App again and restart HTTP and HTTPS if it goes crazy again. The addon scripts have been fine, but if HTTP/HTTPS bombs again. I'll restart HTTP/HTTPS them and see if the router/nodes stay quiet again, without a reboot.

So I'm reading this and thinking, about the only script I really care about is... YazFi. Guess I'm holding at 3004.

The Guest Network Pro feature of the 3006.102.x firmware replicates likely most of the YazFi features. Only feature it doesn't replicate at the moment is one way or two way to Guest that YazFi does (edit to add: also no option to block Internet access). One can do some custom firewall scripting (iptables) to replicate that (those) feature. There are a number of past discussions on the custom firewall scripting to allow the 3006.102.x firmware Guest Network Pro clients to access specific main LAN clients or main LAN clients accessing Guest Network Pro client(s). For example see my post here for some iptables scripting examples. A subforum search will yield other discussions on the Guest Network Pro feature.

PS: For my use case Guest Network Pro, once I understood how it works, does everything I used to do with YazFi. YMMV

Hello,

I just noticed a problem with the new version (AX88U).

When my HP printer is connected via Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz) it only connects for about ten seconds, then disconnects and repeats this cycle. I have no problems with the 5 GHz band. I didn't have this problem with version 3004.388.9_2 or older.

I think I saw this during the alpha test, but I can't find the post (found on post #117 of the alpha thread, user Reef2009 : "the for the new Alpha 2 for AX88U. Last week I updated to the previous Alpha 2. At first I had jo issues but since 2 days I had issues wit connecting to wifi. Only WiFi 2,4 was connect ed en many many disconnects out of the blue")

I should point out that all Wi-Fi settings are at their default values and that the router was reset after the firmware update.

Has anyone else encountered this issue ?

thats not caused by this firmware, its an ongoing eternal issue with airtime fairness.

Thank you for your prompt reply.

What would be the solution to ensure that my printer connection remains stable at 2.4 GHz as before ?

Note : that the airtime fairness option is already disabled by default on the 2.4 GHz band.

Edit : After disabling the “Protected Management Frames” option on the 2.4 GHz band, the HP printer's Wi-Fi connection seems stable.
It's strange, because with the old version 3004.388.9_2, the “Protected Management Frames” option was always enabled on the 2.4 GHz band and the HP printer's Wi-Fi connection worked perfectly well.

There must have been a small change in the latest Merlin firmware.

Ultimately, the printer connection remains stable when this option is disabled.
